6EQUJ5: Alien Contact
"Wow!" That's a good one.

Didn't know about that. The year fits pretty well to the time period I'm currently targeting, too. I must say it sorta fails the pronounceability test... I wonder how well a name like that would actually do for a game, given that the average player would definitely not remember it. Memorability is a somewhat important factor for ensuring that a game gets around.

I guess it has the advantage of sparking curiosity for those who don't know what it means (most people, I would imagine). Having some actual history behind the game story is pretty cool, too.

One of those cool suggestions that I wish would fit all the parameters so I could immediately say: "THAT'S IT!" But it's not quite that name. Hm. Of course, it will likely be impossible to find a "perfect" name in the end--going to probably be unsatisfied with some factor or another... We'll see what more people say. In any case, I'll definitely add that to the formal list for consideration. Thanks 10ebbor10!
Shorten it to Six-Echo and reference the  event ingame.

Six-Echo: Hostile contact, maybe? I do think Xenocorp does sound very generic (also very like xenonuats).

Old and cringe account. Disregard.

I personally like that! Six Echo: Alien Contact. Alternatively, if you tie it to a year (say, 1977) it could be:

6EQUJ5 (pronounced Six Echo): Contact 1977

Note that it's Xenocorps, not Xenocorp--though it's only one letter, the difference in meaning is there. I, too, don't like the fact that it's a bit close to Xenonauts, especially seeing as how for the longest time I didn't like the Xenonauts name at all. Not sure why but after a few years I've gotten over it. Even though it may seem generic, it still has some very strong points, fitting the setting and being a single unique word--easy to say, easy to remember.

FYI: There's also another X-COM remake of sorts (I believe) called Xenowar.

I like the Six Echo idea, though I'll have to let it simmer for a while and see. (For some reason the first thing that comes to mind is Rainbow Six...)

Too bad 'Q' doesn't have an interesting NATO phonetic designation (this game isn't about just Canada, dammit!). Echo Juliet?

Just brainstorming here...

Hm, Six Echo refers to an apparel company, a band, and a character from The Island. Would have to outdo all that with our powerful internet presence ;p

You're thinking about this wrong! Get them to sponsor this, and feature their clothing/music/lines heavily on the troops on the invading monsters! :P
What the hell is "The Island"? I am from Canada...

Haha, yeah, just what turns up in your usual I'm-thinking-of-a-name-so-must-search-Google-first routine. Always important to check...

"The Island" is apparently a Hollywood movie from 2005.

And I'm from Taiwan, so I win. Probably :-\

I like the Six Echo suggestion.

I assume in this universe the radio contact was disclosed as unexplained and unsignificant, but in secret the top government agency managed to make sense of it and it's bad news. The form a secret international alliance under the code name Six Echo to research and deal with this menace.

Maybe the message was the last warning of a civilization consumed by the aliens, heck it could even be the sectoids before they got assimilated.

Six Echo: Quebec

The first contact between humans and aliens takes place in Quebec?

Hmm, Six Echo sounds good. Maybe with some sort of acronym or subtitle.

Let me see, Six Echo: Xeno Investigation and Detection. Maybe Six Echo: X.I.D, or Six Echo: XIAD (Pronounced Ziad). Aha! What about Six Echo: First Contact Defence Force (Or F.C.D.F, whatever you prefer). So many options! Six Echo: Xeno Defence Force (X.D.F). I'm just jumbling around various words and acronyms right now.

Six Echo: Quebec Uncle? Six Echo Queen? SEQ: Contact?

How about SEQ: First Contact? Or maybe something simple, like, Six Echo: First Contact... I actually kinda like that one.

I don't feel like anything about first contact would be good, because the game will take place over several years with a lot of alien encounters; I think that just 6EQ or something would be fine.

6EQ has the benefit of being simple.

Honestly though I like just "Six Echo" by itself as well.

It, however, describes NOTHING about the game itself. It's fine for niche games, but it reduces appeal.
Actually, on its own, it makes me think of Delta Force from the days of yore.

"Dwarf Fortress" - it will involve dwarves and building
"Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead" - it involves something post-apocalyptic
"Dungeon Keeper" - it involved underground stuff, and will probably be a sim of some kind

You get the idea.

Good point, but what exactly did 'X-Com' say about itself? I mean taken out of context its a nonsense phrase referring to nothing at all. At a stretch, you could say that 'com' refers to a command as that's the naval shorthand (PaCom for pacific command, for example) but it only makes sense once you play the game and realize its about aliums. There are plenty of games with titles that are nonobvious.
