Winning is overrated anyway.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Seems a bit close, don't you think?
Winning is overrated anyway ;)

Actually though, it can be very advantageous to start near the UFO, and being adjacent to it probably gives you the best chances of winning (though that still isn't a very likely outcome). If you really don't like it you can always just press F10 to put the UFO somewhere else :)

I am so glad this is not another serial killer roguelike, and actually exists
Ya, I like doing rather than talking. Speaking of, I'm going to go do something now... (and eventually prove I did something by putting out another release 8))

Thanks for the support everyone!

I actually proceeded to blow up the UFO with an HE grenade. Then half my people died because I didn't know how big it was.

EDIT: How do you guys get in the bunker?

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

I keep coming back to this game even though I haven't done very well yet. So good!

Cool cool cool. Have you tried firing the fusion cannon at the door? Or the antimatter one? That's my thoughts, but have not quite managed to survive long enough to put my plan into action ...

The new reaction fire release is ready for action!

Check the blog entry, then get your copy and march on into Area 51 to get your butts kicked.

There's a simple scoring system, so now we can all see how good you really are ;)

I did indeed get my butt kicked. I thought I had it won when the second wave arrived heh. I think the gatling laser is the nicest graphical effect I have ever seen in a roguelike.

It would be awesome if the base came with some fixed heavy weapons at the entrance the soldiers can use.

Huzzah!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I got some nice friendly help mid way through, and I had to actively seek the big orange guy, he only started offensive manouevres when I topped his mate. Not sure if it's bugged ... ?

And I can't remember actually dancing on an alien corpse, but it's there in the hi-score sheet so I must have done it!

The sectopods are nasty. Thankfully they took a bigger dislike to the Army than to my agents. Good stuff though, some great progress.

Oh man reaction fire is more deadly to my guys than to the aliens  :o
My grunt just gunned down my captain with a plasma weapon, I guess I fail at tactical positioning.

The best strategy that I have found is to kill an alien then seize his weapon ASAP, rifles are just too weak for the level of opposition.

Just bought the entire XCOM series. On my first day of Apocalypse, blew up 3 cars belonging to the Cult of Sirious with my... The flying ship, interceptor I think. (Hey, they were listen as hostile xD)

I had a blast reading all the in-game FAQ on companies, rival factions, and all. :) Bought myself a secondary base near XCOM for the hell of it, recruited an 11th agent (a ridiculously strong cyborg :D) and gave them a stun grapple in one hand and pistol in the other. I'm currently outfitting the secondary base as a storage location and am building those security stations in both bases, one at each door from the lift.

Besides sending out the Interceptor (does it even need a pilot? o_O) to blow up those three 'hostile' Sirius cars (hey, I don't like them. That simple.) I haven't done anything else really. As I'm on my first stay, still learning the ropes.

:D

If this ASCII version is any indication of the awesomeness of XCOM, I will have a damn BLAST playing both XCOM and this version as well. :D

This is awesome so far  :D

One question though, how do I switch hands? I keep throwing my gun instead of the grenades  :P

EDIT: Thought fusion cannon was a high-powered rifle. Note to self: Do not use high-explosive energy weapons while inside of an alien armory. Anti-matter grenades don't like it.
