Need help finding a specific embark
« on: September 26, 2011, 11:52:49 am »

As stated in the title, I need help with finding a very specific type of embark, one with a very big aquifer, the more z-levels, the better. Apparently, all aquifers I find are 1 to 3z deep, wich is undesirable for the project I aim to do, building a fully functional fort inside a aquifer, complete with flood-able (and drainable, I hope) areas for defense.

So if anyone has an embark or world seed wich I could use, I'd be grateful.

how about taking an ocean instead?

+ fish

- "mining" an ocean is well, not possible. except if you apply magma. well, there you go!

Ocean biomes tend to be about 3z-levels deep near the coast, wich is where one can embark.

Then again, aquifers tend to form around oceans. Too bad the game won't tell you how deep the aquifer is anymore.

Advanced worldgen is your friend.  You can paint a world that's some 100 elevation everywhere, but has an ocean that's 1 elevation (I think those are the right numbers...) and this will generate a relatively flat world that suddenly dive-bombs into the ocean.  Do a 2x3 or 3x4 embark, and push it further into the ocean, so that it can butt up against the water.  If it's in a freezing area, you can mine out the area to put your fort into an artificial bay and have very easily floodable sections.

Can't seem to make the worldgen accept anything when I change the elevation values, even slightly.

Click around a little, you have to play with the "painting" and "not painting" and "view" buttons.

Someone recently was complaining about a 12z aquifer.

Yes, I got this idea from seeing that, but I've been out of luck this far. I'll do a "test fort" with a 3z aquifer I found, then mess around until I get the desired one

I meant you could possibly ask him for the save/(worldgen params + embark location)

Or you could put [aquifer] tag into every stone in raws.
I've tried that when I've found a great way of breaching thick aquifers, but I got bored with all that stuff quickly.

As for the rejection it's 99% fault of the "Minimum number of XXX" in the end of the menu. Reduce them and it should go fine
