Cool thanks for dwarfing. Also do we have Potters training yet? Another part of spartan culture.  :)

Well, not clay potters yet, though we are producing tons of stone pots in our crafting workshop.

4th of Sandstone, year 103

Our population grew with three dwarves today as one of our jewelers gave a birth to triplets.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Children are the future of our fortress, one day they may become great warriors, hard working peasants, priests or even nobles.

25th of Sandstone, year 103

Another group of migrant arrived today.

Nine dwarves, among them noble Stronghammer and warrior Bowie. I have never met them personally but I've heard they know what they are doing and do it well. So, those two are good addition to our fortress. I even went and made Stronghammer our manager, after I interviewed him that is.

10th of Timber, year 103

Another birth of triplets occurred today. That means our population is almost one hundred dwarves. Ninety-eight if I'm precises.

18th of Timber, year 103

One of our doctors has gone in strange mood. He demanded a glass furnace so we constructed one, which he claimed immediately. Lets see if this one turns out better than the previous mood.

Today the caravan and the liaison arrived again. We hauled all the bins from our craft storage to the depot and then it was time to meet the merchants. We had to use over twenty-one thousands bucks worth of crafts to buy all we wanted, and there were still some stuff we couldn't afford, like rune steel bolts. Nevertheless we got much from the caravan, like metals, wood, alcohol, food, cloth, threads, bolts, splints and crutches. I'm very happy with the deal I made today.

After I returned from the depot I was informed that the doctor had finished his work. He had made a green glass crown.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The crown was decorated with an image of the father of our queen, who also was the king. Specifically the image was about the crowning of him. I think I'm reserving this grown for our queen.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

6th of Moonstone, yer 103

I met the liaison today. And no, she was not going to make us barony. Apparently our population wasn't high enough last year to allow us to become one, so she was not given the permission to make us one. And here we were, preparing ourselves to become the barony. Well, as she stated, next year the situation may be a different. After that we did some trading negotiations and then she left.

A shame, I was really waiting to become a baron. Oh well, back to work.

20th of Opal, year 103

Our metal industrial sector is almost ready. All the halls are emptied from loose rock and the magma channel is ready to be tapped to the magma sea.

Today was the great day when the tapping was meant to happen. When one of our engraves, Lanterncharms, finished her task and right before the magma begun to pouring in she noticed another vein of adamantine. I mean, four veins of adamantine?! HALLELUJA AND PRAISE THE ARMOK!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So shocked she was that she was only able to shout us about the vein when the magma poured in. She managed to escape the flow but unfortunately she is now trapped inside the magma channels with no way of escaping. Poor lass, we shall engrave a memorial for her and her deeds.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

28th of Obsidian, year 103

Another year has passed and the fourth year of Combatbronze is about to begin.

This year has been very good to us, with the discovery of magma and four veins of adamantine. I still can believe it, four veins?

Now, our metal industry is finally fully operational as we don't need to worry about the coal. Yes, the furnaces and forges are deep down there, but that's not going to stop us.

Our population is almost one hundred dwarves, ninety-nine if I'm precise. We have experienced few losses but on the other hands there have been several births this year, even three triplets.

Our wealth is booming, we have produced and claimed stuff worth over four hundred and ninety thousand bucks. That's a lot, and we even haven't begin our adamantine production yeat.

It has been surprisingly quiet here, just few spottings of goblins, kobolds and drows. No sieges nor an ambushes has occurred yet, which surprises me a bit. I fear there will be something big coming to us soon so we will need those adamantine equipment and fast.

Let's hope we fare even better during the coming year, I have no reasons to believe otherwise.

Another year has passed and that means another map uploaded to map archive.

The Link

I didn't honestly think that it would be possible to find four veins of adamantine in one 3*3 embark. One definitely, two possibly, three would have been very rare but four? Never seen such thing to happen before.

I also noticed afterwards that parts of the hall leading to forges and furnaces went actually through a adamantine vein. Also the magma channel one level down is going just next of the same vein. This caused the loosing of four ores of adamantine, though luckily no more than that. Good thing we have plenty of it so four ores doesn't hurt.

Also from now on I won't probably mention every birth that occurs inside the fortress, only triplets. This is because we are going to breed out like rabbits in no time due commoners missing the [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] tag. For example on dwarf already has six children, of which only one birth was triplets.

I haven't also mentioned each and every discovery of thieves and lurkers, those happen more or less weekly especially due two fisher we have. So far none has reached the interior of the fortress so no harm done.

10th of Granite, year 104

Derm has been wanting to kill the zombie giant since we captured it. Well, today was the day when I finally decided to grant him the opportunity.

We had built a small arena outside, with only one exit which is blocked by door. Now, today we moved the cage inside the arena and connected it to a lever built in our meeting hall. When all the preparations were done Derm entered the arena, the door was locked and the lever was pulled.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The battle was over quickly and the rotting corpse literally disappeared. He didn't consider a battle at all and thus the death of giant wasn't counted in his kills.

15th of Slate, year 104

Derm came to my office today and wanted another match. Well, we don't have any zombie giant left so I ordered five goblins to be disarmed and moved to arena.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Again, after the cages were connected to lever and Derm was inside, the door was locked and the lever pulled. This time a battle took several minutes but in the end he had slaughtered all the goblins, without receiving even a scratch himself.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now Derm has sixteen notable kills, which begins to be quite formidable. He also requested another match but this time I didn't agree. I don't want him to get too attached to the axe he is wielding as he is going to receive new one soon.

19th of Slate, year 104

Now that we have all the basic things ready we need to think of our spiritual needs. That means we need priests. And priests require a small chamber where they can sleep. So I ordered our miners to make a group of small rooms next to hospital where the priests can sleep.

We also need to improve our military. While we are still waiting for enough adamantine to have a melee squad wearing a equipment made of it we can still get a nice archer squad using iron equipment. So I ordered bunch of iron equipment and iron crossbows to be made.

3rd of Felsite, year 104

We received another group of migrants today. Nineteen dwarves, among them several warriors, peasants and even one strand extractor. This means our population is finally over one hundred dwarves, one hundred and eighteen in fact.

6th of Felsite, year 104

The quarters for our priests are ready.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They were already hoping for the nominations of primates but I say we wait a bit before doing that. We have more important things to do right now, like preparing our military. The nominations can wait a bit longer.

22nd of Felsite, year 104

Another artifact has been produced.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There was no decorations, so I consider it as the worst artifact produce here so far. At least it's somewhat valuable, around seven thousand bucks.

16th of Malachite, year 104

It has been so quiet and calm here lately. We didn't even get the annual elven slaughter as no elves showed up.

Our masons are working with archery stand over the bridge. We have most of the equipment ready but I want to have that stand ready before I form the squad. By the way, I decided that only female warriors are allowed to be archers. This way we can put all our male warriors to melee squads and we don't have to worry about the safety of the babies too much.

18th of Malachite, year 104

And again some migrants decided to travel here. This is already a tenth such group. This time it consisted of eight dwarves. Now where do we find work for all these dwarves?

Am I training with a spear, yet?

Useless migrants?  Militareh!

Also, that last artifact was, in a word, spartan.  It had absolutely no decoration, nothing fancy, simple, and clear.  Very spartan.

Well, I am a wee bit late in saying what I wanted to say, and doing so now would be quite redundent, so, I am going to ask if, when the next year roles around, I can jump in. (you made it obvious in what you are using and I can spend this "year" practicing until my turn comes up.)

hmmmm if Karakzon is going to be the master of mines can I have a title too?
The Iron Priestess of the Forges!

(can I please be moved to do smithing as well?  :P)

Anyway I've had an idea while I've been off hammering rocks
If we are going to have champions let us build them a proper home!
Lets build a proper arena around the entrance to the fort, high enough to hold the populace and can have balistas and catapults mounted along the top walls   -  normal dwarven citizens can take the heavily guarded side entrances but any creatures and traders have to enter into the arena where we can close the gates on them and release our warriors to practice there skills, and if they fall, the enemy has to pass through the trap infested corridor to enter the fort proper! win for everybody!

bonus points if you figure out how to flood the arean with lava without ruining the fort  ;D

I was so going to post a hand-drawn (with stick characters, of course) picture of Derm and his axe. But seriously, we don't quite yet have any other soldiers going, I'm still waiting for the equipment.

Im sure by now you have some legendarys.

We have five dwarves working as miners, of which only two (you and the other one from starting seven) are legendary. We also have to remember that the three others are working on other jobs as well. But yeah, I can give you the title.

Quote
Also: do you hve any plans to make animal sentry posts of any kind at the entrance? im sure by now goblin ambush squads will be soon to come.

At some point I think the animal sentries will come. On the other hand, I'm not actually expecting goblins just yet, more like cavemen and vikings.

hmmmm if Karakzon is going to be the master of mines can I have a title too?
The Iron Priestess of the Forges!

(can I please be moved to do smithing as well?  :P)

If the game allows a title of that long then why not.
And yeah, I can assign you to forges as well, though you don't possess any skills in there (yet).

Possible but I want to get some other things ready before I start a construction like that.

Are you perhaps referring to the accidents in Evercage?  ;D
The problem there was that I released the magma too soon after water as there were still some left on the area. Magma + Water = Obsidian and obsidian WILL fall through a floor if there is no solid rock or possibly fall right beneath it. Or that's what I learned.

Well, I am a wee bit late in saying what I wanted to say, and doing so now would be quite redundent, so, I am going to ask if, when the next year roles around, I can jump in. (you made it obvious in what you are using and I can spend this "year" practicing until my turn comes up.)

Okay, I think there might be a slight misunderstanding here.
This fortress is community fortress, not succession fortress. The difference is that in community fortress we don't have turns, the whole tale is told by one player and one player only. I know few people mistakenly use COMMUNITY -word on the title of succession forts but this is the difference.

What separates different community fortresses from each other is the level of affecting possibilities of the community. Most authors allow dwarfing (like I do), most of authors are okay with personal diaries and entries (like I am) which aren't officially part of the story but can be incorporated in it by the author. Few authors even allow very specific requests to be made and then just consider which requestes fits to the story. I'm okay even that, for example in normal game I would never consider making one of my military dwarves dual-wielding swords. But as it was requested and I have nothing against it I will do it. Another good example is my previous community fortress Evercage. There were even request of making one claimed dwarf to murder another dwarf. I didn't have the means to do that in-game due the loyalty cascades but I killed one dwarf (who happened to be a tax collector IIRC) and then hinted in the story who could have been the murderer. Never officially confirmed it but it was clear enough to everybody.

Now, about the maps, saves and whatnot. The maps I post to archive are just to make it easier for me as I don't have to upload pictures of whole fortress here. Saves me some time as the uploading of exported map takes only about 5-10 minutes after which the readers can refer to those when wanting to know exactly how the fortress looks like. The saves (if I upload those) are just a generosity from me. It is, after all, a bit of hassle to take the save, zip it, create another instance to DFFD just for one save and then upload the save. I once took time (don't remember which fortress it was) and it takes something like 20 to 30 minutes to upload one save. That's time worth of over one season of playing the game.

As for jumping in, in sense of claiming a dwarf you already are in. Not all dwarves get actively mentioned in the story, it just depends on the profession and/or personality of dwarf. It's just much easier to make entries mentioning dwarves like miners, nobles, soldiers and even masons.

And the final thing, and no, this is not directed to anybody specifically but to all who read this story. IF the save gets uploaded I have few rules regarding to it:
  • No alternative universes. Everything that happens in the save in my laptop are official and nothing else.
  • Questions about what you see in the save file is okay in certain extend. Anything that may spoil something for me or anybody else is restricted. This includes the information of coming sieges, migrants, hollow adamantine spires and so on.
  • Questions and comments regarding the actual mechanics of the mod must be taken to the official thread of the mod (link in my signature). Just note that I still haven't uploaded the version I'm using as this fortress also acts as final testing (already discovered few bugs) so there are lots of undocumented things and things that are in conflict with manual or what I have posted in the thread.

Seriously, no offense meant to anyone, just wanted to clarify few things up there...  ;D

Now, back to Combatbronze!

16th of Galena, year 106

The human caravan is coming! And they are attacked by goblin ambush!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fortunately the merchants were protected by guards and thus the goblins were dispatched quickly.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But before they managed to reach the fortress another threat came, this in time in form of drows.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We quickly called everybody inside and stationed Derm next to the golems and prepared for a fight. Unfortunately one of our fishers didn't manage inside and was attacked and then killed by the advancing drows.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Four our dwarves were still in danger as they were outside, collecting the corpses, while the attack begun.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Of the four dwarves only one managed to get inside, unfortunately the three remaining were slaughtered by drows. Few drows also tried to get inside our fortress but they were slaughtered by the traps.

And at the same moment another group of goblins appeared.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Everybody were already inside so we just had to wait. A huge battle took place near the traps between the goblins and human soldiers, but eventually the goblins were slaughtered. But all these events made the humies so furious that they decided to leave this place immediately, so we didn't manage to make any trading with them. I think it's time get all the corpses inside now.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

14th of Limestone, year 104

The incident that happened few weeks back taught us one thing; we need soldiers to defend our entrance. This is why we formed the squad  "The Copper Wigs" from eight female warriors, gave them iron armor and iron crossbow, some bolts and ordered them to station at the top of our archery stand.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The order also states that any given time there must be at least four of them stationed there, no less. This way we should get at least a warning when the enemies are on our way.

The leader of the squad was also made the captain of guard, which basically the same as sheriff. This means we must give her the proper quarters.

2nd of Sandstone, year 104

All the corpses and items left outside have been hauled inside now. It seems that one of the merchants were slaughtered, along with his pack animal, and thus we just claimed all the goods left behind to ourselves.

Today we also received another bunch of migrants. Seven dwarves of which two were peasants and one warrior. That leaves four nobles. Four? Where the hell do we need this many nobles to?

5th of Timber, year 104

Another artifact was created today. It was a wooden statue of one of our former queens.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There is this image of the former queen and the crowning. There is also an image of Worshipwipped, the green glass crown in the artifact

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now, the tale of the queen is quite sad one and even a embarrassing part of our history. Yes, we have had troll as our queen for a moment. Few years in fact. I don't know the details why it was crowned but the bad rumors say that there were some political schemes including some kind of wager going on at that time. Nevertheless, after only three years since the crowning the queen was abducted by night creature and turned to one. And we haven't seen the troll ever since. Good thing by the way, no dwarven civilization should be ruled by any lesser being!

21st of Timber, year 104

The caravan from mountain home arrived today. First it was time to do some trading. For lots of crap we got some metals, lots of wood, bolts, food and alcohol. I'm pleased even though I had hoped for some leather and cloth as well. Perhaps we should start producing our own cloth soon?

Unfortunately, while we were doing some trading, two of our dwarves were ambushed outside the fortress.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The archers and Derm fought bravely and the invading goblins were slaughtered and one of the two civilians was able to get inside. Unfortunately the other one died by the hands of goblins.

Unfortunately not everything went as we planned. Derm was wounded and it's not sure if he is able to use his other hand anymore. That shouldn't slow him down though.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The worse thing came to one of our archers. She suffered some serious wounds and it's unknown if she will survive.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The one who died during the ambush was Ahtra, the butcher. I also ordered that our priests must not take part in the hauling and instead try to heal our wounded soldiers. This order takes place immediately and last as long as I see fit.

11th of Moonstone, year 104

This is bad! One of the goblins were able to escape and abducted a child when doing so!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm not sure how the mother will take this. Hope she doesn't turn berserk as she happens to be one of our archers!

On the happy news, Derm is back from hospital. He can't use properly his left had but that doesn't slow him down a bit. We shall begin producing the adamantine equipment at once, after that we should have proper melee squad as well.

16th of Moonstone, year 104

Finally!

The liaison just informed me that our fortress has been made to barony! And I was chosen to the position of baron! This is wonderful!

The promotion should take place in few weeks, after she has reached the queen with the news of our accept.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I can't wait to get the title!

2nd of Obsidian, year 104

Our melee squad has been assembled. The squad consists of Bowie, dual-wielding short swords, Nix wielding spear and shield, Jacen with axe and shield, Edmus who took spear and shield and Derm wielding axe. Derm is the righteous leader of the squad with twenty-three notable kills.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Besides the chosen weaponry all of them received breastplate, greaves, high-boots, gauntlets and helmets. Every piece of the equipment was made from adamantine, so their equipment should be superior to our enemies.

6th of Obsidian, year 104

We received the word that from now on we are officially the barony of our kingdom.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

With the letter I was also promoted to the position of baron and I received the instructions of proper quarters I should have from now on.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We shall start the work immediately after the celebration is over.

16th of Obsidian, year 104

Damned vikings! They decided to attack us!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And we have a weak spot in our defense; the construction site of pasture!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We must protect that weak spot at all cost! So we must force the vikings to come there and station all our soldiers near it. That means we must raise the bridge at our official entrance.

19th of Obsidian, year 104

And so the vikings came. And, just like we had planned, the only route inside was through the construction site, heavily guarded by our soldier.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The battle was fierce and more or less everybody took some small injuries. But eventually the siege was broken and the vikings begun to retreat. Unfortunately our melee soldiers decided to chase them down, only to discover small goblin ambush squad waiting outside.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The ambush was slain and the goblins were chased away. But all the dwarves who took part in the combat were wounded, so we called them inside for healing. This is terrible, I hope we don't loose anybody.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But right after the alarm was over we got another ambush, this time from south.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The poor butcher was slain but again our soldiers were able to wipe out the goblins. Now the construction site is full of blood, vomit and piss. And corpses, of course. I wonder how our animals behave when taken there?

24th of Obsidian, year 104

All of our wounded soldiers should be able to return to duty sooner or later. None of the wounds were too serious. The sad thing is, at least Edmus and Bowie can't use their other hand. That means Edmus can't use his shield anymore and Bowie must let go the second sword. That's a shame really.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

28th of Obsidian, year 104

Another eventful year has come to end. We have had both bad days and good days. We are now barony, that's a very good thing, but we have lost several of our dwarves to our enemies and our military has been wounded somewhat. Fortunately none of our soldiers have died thus far.

Our wealth is good, over one and half million bucks, and our population slowly reaching the legendary one hundred and forty dwarves. Our food and alcohol situation is good, we have no worries in that matter.
