25th of Hematite, year 103Our grand dining hall is finally ready. And when I say ready I mean it has all the furniture, floors and walls are smoothed and engraved.
There are lots of engravings of different things, like artifacts, gods and whatnot. But especially two engravings caught my attention, both were made by Karakzon.
The first engraving was about me getting elected to the position of expedition leader of this journey.
The second engraving is about the slaughter of first elves here in Combatbronze. The expression of the elf was especially funny.
Have to say, our engravers did fantastic job with the dining hall. I'm pleased.
3rd of Malachite, year 103Now that our dining hall is ready I ordered our miners to dig deeper and search a source of magma. While they were doing so they discovered a huge cavern few floors bellow our fortress.
This didn't come as a surprise to me, though I didn't expect to find one such close to surface. Doesn't matter really, for now we shall seal the entrance there and continue digging deeper.
8th of Malachite, year 103Oh crap!
One of our soldiers has gone berserk!
Apparently the poor dwarf had one of those moods but was unable to find enough materials. I didn't know about it so I have no clue what he was looking for. Now, when he went berserk Derm was immediately called. Unfortunately, before he was able to reach the insane dwarf, the mad one had already killed one of our citizens who just happened to be in a wrong place at wrong time.
Right after the mad warrior had killed the poor peasant Derm reached the site and killed him.
Now, as sad it is, Derm has eleven notable kills, one being a fellow dwarf. This is really a sad day for Combatbronze, fellow dwarves turning against each other.
9th of Galena, year 103Due the recent tragedy we were forced to make a graveyard where we can bury our dead.
I'm really saddened that we had to do this at this point of our history. I wouldn't be as sad if the both fallen dwarves were killed by accident or attacking enemy but instead our own killed them. The bodies have been buried properly now, may they rest in peace.
13th of Galena, year 103Our courtyard has been finally finished!
The bridge connecting our fortress to the rest of the world is controlled by one lever, which was built inside our dining hall. It was built there, along other levers, because we want to be sure that in case of emergency there is someone close enough to pull the lever. Now we can continue our search for magma and walling of the cavern.
15th of Galena, year 103Our miners were able to go dig few floors deeper when they discovered another cavern.
Two caverns so close to each other? How can the walls support such a thing? On the bright side, we discovered two huge underground lakes down there. I think I have some good plans for those, though those must wait. We shall continue digging deeper, we can't be too far from magma now.
4th of Limestone, year 103I met the human merchants today. I have to say, their selections were quite poor. The only things that interested us were some metal bars, few logs and some barrels, one containing alcohol. Why did they even bother coming here without proper selection of goods?
I heard there had been some rat problems down in the second cavern. Luckily Derm went there so nobody was injured. The cavern is sealed now, so we shouldn't be pestered by those giant rats anymore.
5th of Limestone, year 103Another cavern?! It's third one our miners have discovered so far! How many of those can be there between us and the magma?
Well, we shall treat this cavern like we did with two previous; we go straight through and build walls around our stairs. But seriously, three caverns?
16th of Limestone, year 103Oh praise the Armok!
Our miners have finally discovered the great sea of magma!
And with magma came the adamantine!
But, praise the Armok and all the holies, it wasn't just one vein! Oh no, not one vein, not even two veins, but three veins!
We are rich! Filthy rich! I can't wait to tell about this to our queen! There is more adamantine we could ever dream of!
Now, after we have celebrated this discovery, we shall immediately begin the construction of forges and furnaces down there. I know it's quite a climb to get down there and back up, but it will definitely be worth of it to get our metal industry running properly!
