My Ruler has arrived, dressed as a peasant.....
« on: March 05, 2008, 08:30:00 pm »

Okay...

Well its Mid-Spring, 1052.

And i just received that message, then right after wards i got some migrants. The first one is the peasant...

Should the ruler be coming only in the second year?

I only have 15 Peasants! :|

This is a bug correct? Or is my king / ruler suppose to arrive so soon?

Second question, what should i do to avoid him showing himself as the king?

Do not touch adamantine.
He'll come if you've found it, as soon as the news reach him.

Otherwise, he'll come normally.

He's already on the map.  You got the message BECAUSE HE F*ING SHOWED UP.

He's purple, as you'd expect the king to be.  "Dressed as a peasant" is only a flavor thing about how you shouldn't have him and he "snuck away" to be at your adamantine mine.

Mine at my adamantine mini-fort got slaughtered by ambushers within a minute after arriving. You'd think he would bring some guards. :P

(I have the pop cap on 5. I actually have around 9 dwarves. They keep coming in waves of 1 or 2. Most died because they were outside and couldn't get walls up fast enough - I wasn't about to take down my main fort's walls and have all my guys run outside and get killed, just to let them in. I have an airlock setup now, though.)

I have not discovered any adamantine on my map yet.

I haven't touched a little bit of it... I would remember   :)

So thats why i'm posting this in bugs. Nothing i have read explains the king showing up so soon.

Edit: I only have a created wealth of 16600. lol  :)

Offtopic question, when you set your population cap (0 - 200 setting), does that mean it won't allow your dwarves pop go over that limit (even with having children) or does that just control the immigrant count?

The pop-cap prevents immigration, it's pretty soft.

have you doublechecked to make sure there's not some accidentally exposed somewhere? if the vein were exposed in a chasam for example that might trigger the king without messages?

I have the same problem in my current game.  I've struck adamantium, dealt with some demons, and for the longest time - nothing.
I've cleared out the outsides slightly and took care of a megabeast, and then I got migrants, preceeded by the "Your ruler has arrived, dressed as a peasant." message and including the whole she-bang of baroness, tax collector, etc.
Yet, even though there were several peasants among the migrants, nothing resembling a noble.
No incoming-king demands, no addition on the nobles list, no peasant with an odd description (I looked at them all carefully), no nothing.
Is this a bug then, or is he supposed to be extremely sneaky about his own presence like that?

Edit: Also, the Liaison seemed to have stopped appearing after this happened.

The only way to be safe is to simply kill all of them then.

I've fixed the problem with the king/queen not showing up when it says he/she does.  Dunno what's up with it saying somebody shows up before adamantine.

edit: fixed as in, fixed it five minutes ago for next version.  It was a funny bug -- it would just pick the first living unit in the civilization's list, regardless of what their qualifications were, drag them out of their town, and have them show up at your fortress, without actually letting them be the king.

Yay.  Thanks!

Thakh

Edit: Will this affect saves where the King already arrived (and broke), or will we need to start over?

Yeah thats what i want to know as well, i'm on a pretty decent map right now, would suck to have to start over. I got so much ore all over the place i don't know where to dig first   :D

Edit:Also, i just loaded DF up today and looked around my map. I cant find no adamantium anywheres.

None is exposed.
