Request: games (preferably free) with few or no mouse demands
« on: September 25, 2011, 07:37:19 pm »

So my mouse's USB "Connect to the fucking computer" implement has broken and I now have for mouse movement:
A trackpad
A tablet

And as much fun as going down to FG&R to run The King is Dead! and Woman of Ambition in all my free (once-used-for-gaming) time, I'm interested in what games I still have available, and I've decided now seems to be a fine time to explore no-/low-mouse-use options.

Flash games and downloaded are both fine, and things that don't need a mouse that's moving around quickly but do need a mouse are fine (e.g. X-COM would be okay, any FPS less okay).

So, suggestions?

95% of Roguelikes do not require a mouse at all. If you're looking for any specific genres, I will likely be able to point you at them.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.
Quote from: Ze Spy
Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Fffffff download link is broken.

Ehhh, tried it a while ago but wasn't fantastically fond of it.

Yeah, but if I wanted to find a Roguelike I'd be looking on my Hard Drive instead of on the Internet. <_<
As for genre... strategy is good. Turn-based especially, but something not-terribly-APM-heavy and real-time that isn't the terrifying and intimidating game AI War would be fine too. Uhh... puzzle games less favored, no racing or sports unless it's something SuperOMGmazing... yeah, I dunno. I figure I'd just raid jayisgames.com if I had anything more specific in mind. <_<

Maybe an Emulator of some sort? For instance, Visual Boy Advance with Advance Wars 1 and 2 would fit what you're asking for fairly well.

point and click adventures count as puzzle games? they need mouse by definition, but are hardly twitch based

Old-time doom where you automatically shoot up and down at the enemies.

And has no jump button, if I remember correctly.

I'm aware. I played a somewhat awkward Flash emulator of it a while ago, if I recall.

Ur Quan Masters/Star Control 2 doesn't need a mouse.

When asked what happens when you are then shot in the other eye, he said that you put an eyepatch on that eye. When asked how you'd be able to see, he said that your first eye would have healed by then.

"Neonivek: Any ones you had in mind?"

O_O

I wasn't expecting to be taken up on it... at all...

Well there are the original Kings Quest games up to 4 (after 4 and you HAVE to use the mouse. The remake of Kings Quest 1 however can be used with the keyboard. Some other remakes maybe as well)

However that is as far as my knowledge goes... REALLY check up on it. There are tons of old text games and a lot of them are very interesting. Heck the Zork series started off as one of those games.
