Commited a "crime" in Adventure Mode - no turning back?
« on: September 25, 2011, 04:28:31 pm »

I had just gone into a shop in Adventure Mode and bought an iron breastplate and two iron low boots. So I went to take my merchandise, and there were two seperate pairs of Iron Low Boots, one evidently masterwork(?) and the other just average. I think I bought the masterwork ones so I take them and leave. Next thing I know, all the people in the town are just responding "Don't talk to me" when I try to speak to them. I tried returning the boots by just dumping them on the floor of the shop but it doesn't work.

Is there anything I can do now? Am I just screwed? It seems silly that one thing like that could alienate an entire civilization, especially because there's no real clear indicator which merchandise you actually bought.

If I am screwed and there's no way to reverse this - I'm definately going on a killing spree, seeing as I'm already hated by them.

There most certainly is - in Adventurer mode, any item that's owned by a civilization is marked with dollar signs (e.g. $*iron low boot*$).

Oh.. see I couldn't tell the $ apart from the other random -~((=symbols=))~- used as quality indicators, so I just figured the one with the dollarsign on the end was a masterwork one. Good to know for the future - but is there anything I can do to clear my name now?

For future reference,

«item» refers to a decorated item, -item- means well-crafted, +item+ means fine, *item* means superior, ≡item≡ means exceptional, and ☼item☼ means masterwork.

Also, by coincidence, ☼ is a currency sign. (in the sense that ^ is a caret)

So, if you see $*«☼Iron short sword☼»*$, that means that it is a ☼Masterwork☼ iron shortsword with *superior* «decorations» that $is not owned by you$.

Only one workaround I know for fixing shopkeepers after you steal from (or attack) a member of their civ.  Walk up to the original shop where you stole the items, and stand next to any NPC in the shop.  Press, in this order, Shift+A, a, c, a.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.
