Music Mood Requests, #7- Paradox
« on: September 25, 2011, 02:28:07 pm »

I recently picked up Mixcraft 5 (which is a great, garageband-like program that's actually a lot better than garageband) and I'm looking to compose some music. However, with the plethora of options I'm confronted with, I don't even know what sort of song I should be making. What I'm looking for from this forum is a 'mood' for a song. I listen to a great deal of game music, so I really appreciate having a situation or image behind the song I'm writing. If you want to contribute an idea for what I should do, you could put up a photo, or give me a summary of what the song should be like (example: creepy and ethereal with distorted bass) <-don't say that one, it's just a random idea.
and I might base a song around it. If I do, I'll be sure to publish the result here on the forums. Don't expect any mixcraft wizardry, but I have lots of music training and theory to apply to this new hobby!
I look forward to any suggestions you might have!

Synthesized brass would be cool.

I actually collect music of a certain mood. Calm, downbeat, yet (usually) positive... At least that was the original aim, it kinda splurged out.
The song that started it all was Exile Vilify.
Apart from that, there's Build That Wall, from Bastion, then I've got Dreaming in Dortmund, Nothing Else Matters (Scala and Kolacny Brothers).
Then if you want something a little more upbeat there's Engel(Also Scala and Kolacny Brothers), For the New Lunar Republic, a remix, and remix+original. Oh, then there's Viva la Vida, which really stands out as being more upbeat than the rest.

Then for some (mostly) more mellow, less heavy stuff there's also a few different picks from the music in Radiant Historia. Though your mileage may vary.

That's just some of my junk, you may not actually go for it though.

EDIT: Oh, and for some depressing stuff there's also a few other things I've got (can't be bothered with fiddly links now).

Alone With You (Dying to See You) (Foreground Eclipse):

Dirge for a Planet (from STALKER, by Firelake):

The famous Mad World by Gary Jules:

And I might as well throw in Mother I'm here from Bastion:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlfUcnSbKDA&feature=related
(One of the most melancholy and powerful things I've ever heard)

And ehh... Sure why not, some more junk from Radian Historia:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhkHqTTYUVM
(Although I feel kind of meh about a lot the Radian Historia stuff, not sure why I took so much of it on)

EDIT2: I was actually going to make some kind of suggestion before I started spamming out all this stuff, but I can't remember what it was now.

I find the laziness of these fish inspirational:

All right, I'll see what I can do about that orange tree picture and the lazy fish too!
I'll get started on a song by tomorrow, and should have a decent WIP in about 4-5 days. (not kidding about the lazy fish. They actually gave me a song idea)

It inspires me, but not in such a funny way as the fish. The WIP on the lazyfish song is coming along nicely. (though it's only about 20 seconds long at the moment)

All done with the lazy fish song! You can listen to it HERE http://www.supload.com/listen?s=LXm5BH
It's not very serious and not very intricate, but advice is still welcome. It's not supposed to sound awesome, just funny and suited to the fish  ;D
It came out very ringtone-y, but not in a bad way.

I like it, it does sound suited to the fish somehow.   :o

I like it! Can you possibley do a song with a creepy mood? It'd probally work better as a slow song.

Create a song as BIG!!! sounding as possible. Instruments the size of planets, beat made of explosions, billions of small tones in the background melting together into an uniform noise, those iconic sounds of tortured metal twisting apart and ice masses cracking, classical huge instruments like gongs and church organs, etc. As for the actual melody, accelerating and epic, with a frantic despair; apocalyptic.

I think I'll do this one next. I'm not quite good enough at this program yet to do Armok's suggestion, but I'll keep it in consideration as I become more proficient. I had a lot of of fun with the first prompt and I probably will do several of these. I'm taking a music technology class at school as well as working from home, so I have lots of composing time to spare.

I'm listening to the Lazy Fish song right now... it would be fantastic town/hub-area music for an RPG or adventure game. Keep up the good work!
