http://yro.slashdot.org/story/12/10/26/0245237/mother-found-guilty-after-protesting-tsa-pat-down-of-daughter

Mother has "strong words" against the TSA agents attempting to grope-down and/or porno-scan her 14 year old daughter. She is convicted of disturbing the peace on the grounds that it impeded the flow of traffic through security. The video of the event shows there was no such impediment.

I'm not exactly sure what that added to the conversation. But okay. That man has a very pretty head, excluding the swastika. (Not for political reasons, just that I don't tend to like tattoos aesthetically.)

I don't even... wow.  That logic about the Pussy Riot girls o_O  Somehow he's totally justified in jailing them because... I don't even.  Just admit you're a dictator, dude.  You're not fooling anyone.

As the American Elections are proving right now, even the most transparent and stupid lie works often enough to justify its usage. And because of religious senses of privilege against any offense, I suspect Putin's lie will work well enough due to theocrats not caring. Though with Russia's apparent love of brutal dictators you'd think he'd come out and declare himself God-Emperor of Russia, just to improve his popularity.

Also:
Quote
"Do you want to support people with such views? If you do, then why do you not support the guy who is sitting in prison for the film about the Muslims?" the president shot back.

whut? Usual there's at least a substantial target when bad people try to deflect, but in this case Putin's knowledge of the situation is laughable.

vladamir putin...

what did you expect?

A shirtless knife fight against a grizzly bear.

Haven't you heard? His new style is caring about nature. So it would be a shirtless Putin breastfeeding a little motherless bear cub.

Oh god that's totally propagandan symbolism too.

The things police will do to kill an environmentalist....

So there's been a blockading effort going on for months to slow the development of the Keystone XL pipeline.  Right now they're just clear-cutting the path for construction.  Activists are placing themselves in the trees that are marked to be cut, and camping out for as long as possible.  Some have managed to stay in them for significant amounts of time, single-handedly slowing down the process for a week or more.  Police respond by destroying their platforms and climb lines, so that the activists have only bare tree limbs to perch on and no safe way down.  Then they go in with cherry pickers (they look kinda like those platforms power line workers use) to retrieve and arrest the activist.

So activists try and climb as high as possible, out of reach of the cherry pickers.  Police respond to this by destroying their platforms and climb lines, and then focusing a battery of floodlights up into the tree to blind and sleep-deprive the activist until they fall.  One man has already fallen 40 feet because of this, and they're currently using this tactic against a woman who is perched 70 feet up.

Edit:  Also, Jill Stein has been arrested for helping supplies to reach these people.

Edit Edit:

Oh... and this just came across one of my feeds...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A video clip of the protesters confrontation with the swat team.

An first-hand description of the whole event on Occupy Denver's website.

Some more photos

Goddamnit... I see something like this every single day that leaves me shaking with rage... usually just before I need to lay down and sleep...

Christ. That pipeline is going to be blown up if it ever gets built in the first place. This sort of shit is exactly what led up to the ELF becoming #1 on the FBI's terror watchlist. History repeats itself, and people always seem to forget that.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.
