The police have shotguns too, and not many more qualms about using them than about pepper spraying peaceful protesters. Going there with a shotgun is just giving them an excuse to do so. If you're that afraid of being spayed, you should consider not attending

Holy balls that would hurt.

I have heard an idea for a bunch of protesters to all get riot suits and nightsticks, but then use hugs instead of spraying and smashing.

I think they should get riot suits and shields, then mirror all of the police formations.  Nonviolent, very strange looking.

This is why I couldn't be a police officer.  I would go berserk on my superiors the first time I'm ordered to do something like that.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You'd want to be careful about that, if you look too much like the cops, they'll bust you for impersonating police officers. Or they'll just arrest you for something like "equipped to cause an affray."

Bright pink riot armor, "OCCUPY" on all the shield fronts. Can't mistake that for cops.

Use highly padded bear suits, instead.

This means, of course, suits that look like bears, not suits made for fighting bears.

Or suits made of bears.

Dyed pink, of course.

Nope. Bright, neon pink/green/orange dazzle camouflage. They can't pepper-spray you if it's physically painful to look at you for too long.

Or better yet, a baseball bat and shotgun.

DC has some of the strictest gun laws in the country.  If you are looking for ways to give cops perfectly legitimate reasons to arrest you, there are much easier ones.

I started the video and then got my coffee, missing the first seconds of it and assumed the island was a metaphor for the USA went all "what the hell are you talking about you're the one's-" and the there was a huge "Oh" moment and then I rewatched it.

He puts it very well. I'm not certain if it's actually as deliberate as he makes it seem, but yeah, that's pretty much the pattern there, and it keeps on being painted.
