But didn't Doom turn his little kingdom into a little paradise for his subjects? I remember him as being the poster...child(?) for Benevolent Despotery.

Also all the other rich dudes from Simpsons would fit.

Who else is attending their local Occupy movement?  :)

I don't really "attend," but I walk past two as I go to school and come back every day.

I have visited mine once in person and communicated with them a lot through livestream.  Mostly just been doing my part to support the movement online, raising interest and addressing lies and criticisms.  Had wanted to go this weekend, but that kind of flopped.  Kids don't make it easy.

Aren't you supposed to be... not here?

I haven't attended, the nearest occupy movement here is nearly an hours drive away. Besides, I'm a shut-in... And not an American citizen. I'm not even sure if I'll be staying in this country.

I wouldn't blame you if you left. One of my very good friends went back to japan after she graduated. She probably won't be back, with the way homeland security treats travelers. Plus there is architecture work there after all the homes destroyed by the tsunami. :(

I have to check on the PRT daily to make sure all is running smoothly, so I end up in this part of the forum.

Also, I'm in a terrible mood, so yeah, I've come back to post/whine/bitch around.

Having to return to my normal life did suck a lot. School has to be attended.  :(
On the other hand, weekends and after-school!  :D

My father has taken an increasingly negative view of the Occupy movement ever since he drove past the Occupy Raleigh protestors. One sign prompted this shift in opinion, that being a sign that read "Capitalism is mean.".

I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed in that being a sign too.

I'm organizing Occupy [Name of My Town] largely solo. I'll be attending for sure.

I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed in that being a sign too.
Yeah... Capitalism isn't the problem. Plutocracy is.

To be fair. It's true. Capitalism on it's own tends to be mean. Tends to bully the little guy. Throw someone in there to keep an eye on things and capitalism can be a damn fine member of the kickball team though.

O we can do comic book guys? Ok then, that opens it right up. :)
I believe in humanity's ability to help itself through misfortune. However, every day I'm assaulted by evidence to the contrary. The people no longer care enough to better themselves. They simply ask the big guy to deal with it. And it works, and their problems are solved, and they go on living, not caring enough to improve their quality of life. They just ask, and they suddenly their problems vanish, however temporarily. Where has our determination gone? What happened to the American Dream? Both have been crushed by complacency. I'm simply trying to get us to fight for ourselves again.

I am Lex Luthor, and I am the 1%.

...Meh. I think I could have done a bit better.

Capitalism:
You have two cows.
An investment group buys stocks in your company to let you buy a third cow.
Later it then buys your company and ships the cows off to another farm. You get paid large amounts of money, so you're alright with that... Until the price of milk sky-rockets.
Then you find out that the money you had been placing in low risk stocks had actually been used to buy out your own company, but you can't follow that up since the cows have been turned into beef now anyway.

Then the bank forecloses on your mortgage on account of your investments now being invalidated.

I have been busy with moving and marrying and new jobbing, and also I couldn't find Dewey Square. I looked damn it.

On the other hand, I probably won't get nearly as involved as I did a year ago now - I need to be a good little worker-bee and continue advancing both my Computer and Educational qualifications so I have a chance in hell of successfully fleeing the country and escaping back home to New Zealand. Sure, I may not be a citizen there, but its still home. Its hard to get in and may be impossible, but I got to try damn it.

I haven't attended, but I've provided  background support, logistics, and helped make sure things are legal.
