I don't even pay attention to news anymore.  At most, I'll see a headline that alerts me to a current event.  Once I'm aware of the event, I don't look at news on it again.  I look for the people who are there.  I'm typically aware of things before they hit the news.  I knew about Occupy Wall St a couple weeks before it started.

This. Typically what happens is while I'm home and can actually watch TV, I might browse the news stations just to get a bearing on what's going on in the world. As soon as I find something interesting that's actually news (and not: "NFL draft commentary blah blah blah" while Japan got slammed by an earthquake and tsunami), I rush on over to Bay12.

I rely on the Bay12NewsTeam for almost all of my news, since it's usually updated before the news channels are and makes every attempt at removing bias (or in the case of a lot of bias, conflicting views offer better perspective).

Its actually really sad that bay12 offers better and faster coverage of international events than a fair portion of professional journalism. I noticed this during the arab spring in particular, and the japan tsunami was another case.

...You do know that we get all of our news from professional journalists, right?  None of us here are doing first hand reporting, we're just good at finding a variety of professional sources, and all of them Internet based.

I don't get my news from this forum or from professional journalists... Or I supposed you could say that I get my news, and then I get my information.  I see a headline or a post about something that's going on, and then I seek out personal testimony, amateur photos and videos, or even live chat and video feeds from people who are/were there.

I just wonder what these people intend to get done. Peacefully protesting against aspects of an inherently flawed system is not going to do much.
It is very good to see some conscience for once, though.

Supposedly, It's all about raising awareness that a lot of people are unhappy with the way the country is heading.

It's just getting started.  Notice how this isn't like other peaceful protests, where people are making specific demands of those in power.  I think most of the people involved in this have given up on that, for exactly the reason you just pointed out.  They understand that this is just the beginning, and many many more numbers are necessary before real action can be taken.  So right now it's just an effort to get people motivated and start making plans for the future on our own terms.

Because it's a reasonable assumption, since "status quo" is always a more likely result than "anything else".

I don't really have an answer though.  This began because "nothing" was happening.  As long as "nothing" continues to happen, then the situation doesn't change I suppose, including the attraction of "protesting" "nothing".

Did the tea party accomplish nothing?  Democracy runs on public opinion and perceptions.  Vocally standing up to corporate greed is important in that regard.
