It's the nature of professional nerding. We all have it happen to us.

I'm not arguing. I'm just making a statement. Glorious Machine Overlord, I swear everyone on this forum is constantly looking for a fight, it gets really old.
The hell it does!

That was a joke, if that was not clear. And not a particularly original one >_________>

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I apologise for being overly confrontational, MSH, bit your statement really didn't make any sense.

Apparently a major Native American and international indigenous rights activist, Russel Means, is in the hospital with not much time left to live.

Heather Brooke, the person responsible for the British parliamentary financial expenses scandal of 2009, gives a TED talk about freedom of information.

Third Seattle anarchist faces prison (without charge?) for refusing to provide information about her political affiliations.

Is this the beginning of a witch hunt?  Are counter-terrorist organizations really turning into thought police?

Ok, I guess that girl is the same one that I posted the picture of towards the bottom of the previous page.

She's actually been released.

But it sounds like she's still threatened with further prison time?

Uh....refusing to testify in court has always been a crime, guys. This isn't some new thing.

Lying in court is a crime.
Not showing up when subpena'd is a crime.
Not testifying against your self is not a crime.
However a judge can make arbitrary rules and declare you to be in contempt of court.
But that does not mean that not answering questions is a crime.

Depends on what they want you to testify about, right?  Tell us what you saw as a witness to/participant in a crime... sure.  We made up the crime so we could get you here to tell us about your buddies... that's something different, and that's the impression I'm getting here.  I'm about to head out, so I'll have to look up more on this later.

Basically, this. Besides, books and other printed material shouldn't on it's own provide cause for taking someone to court. If it does in the future, I'm screwed.

Sorry, but all the writing I'm seeing about this just seems really hard to believe. I'm sure certain parts of it are true, but it's hard to believe anything that's written in such a biased way. There is something else going on here... And I'm sorry... but 7 days in a cell doesn't certify you for title of martyr.
