AR-15s? If they were combat firearms....

Another Edit:   Soooo.... apparently military veterans have declared their intent to protect protesters from the police, and have begun patrolling Occupy camps in multiple cities with combat firearms (most stories are mentioning AR-15s).  Even if I were there, I doubt this would make me feel any safer    :o

You better get a link for this, that is a serious charge.  And scary as Hell.  I was waiting for and fearing this day.  A couple of the old guys I met at my meeting the other night gave me a really really strong Marvin Heemeyer vibe.

I also have to direct them at a bank protest, and I am scared shitless.

I had a feeling there would be consequences for severely injuring a veteran for no reason. Does anyone have an update on Scott Olsen's status? He could still very well die from that wound.

I certainly hope he survives, partly for his sake, and partly because just injuring him lead to:

Yeah, I'm expecting his death, should it occur, will be a huge turning point.

Because seriously, this is getting messy.

To get into the messy, sick, gallows humour part...

How many deaths do you forsee in the first, say, week after Scott Olsen's death should he die?

Last I saw, Scott Olsen is scheduled for surgery to reduce pressure from brain swelling.

Here's the video that's getting passed around a lot in relation to the supposed gun presence.  Still at work, so I can't watch it.  Youtube bandwidth is heavily throttled here, to the point that it takes like 10 minutes to load 30 seconds of video. I've only seen direct mention of a guy with a gun in Phoenix, but the person who posted this video did so with the comment that it's happening in other places too.  But I take it with a grain of salt, because that guy (Michael Mozart) has a somewhat sensationalist attitude.  I did see a supposedly collective statement yesterday from occupy veterans that they were going to take it upon themselves to protect protesters.  I'm trying to dig that up again now.

There are a lot of reports on twitter that he's currently in a medically-induced coma. I can't confirm anything, though.

About one million people.

Wait, you mean because of his death, and not just people dying in general? Could be nobody, could be dozens.

Supposedly, he's being kept unconscious on barbiturates, which are controversially used in cases like this as a stalling tactic to hold off brain damage and swelling while they prepare for more hands-on procedures.

According to Iraq Veterans Against the War, who are in as personal of contact as anyone can be, Oslon is conscious and able to write but isn't really speaking yet, possibly due to sedatives rather than injury.  They themselves are confused on whether the doctors don't think he'll need to be operated on, or are just optimistic about it.

They're also holding a donation drive, if you've got a bank card.

I can't find anything in the Internet news about armed veterans anywhere, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

I remember earlier in the thread, someone mentioned the history of the Bonus Army.  Today's issue of The New Yorker had the same idea.  Amazingly enough, one of the two veterans killed in the Bonus Army reprisal was from Oakland.

I think there's just one guy in Phoenix with an AR-15 (supposedly legally).  People are saying he's also a self-described neo-nazi who was discharged from the marines.

Frankly, rather just him than an army of veterans.
