my 10 marksdwarves stand idle holding their fire while okmuz, an evil hippo is chasing my haulers... they are set to harass animals and to chase opponents

Shouldn't matter, off-duty military still will attack valid targets (including wildlife)

Just command them to patrol around the hippo's area, then they will start to chase it. This isn't a bug.

doesn't work, even on patrol they still wont target and fire. the hippo strikes down their comrades and they just stand idle. all have crossbows and have trained at archery ranges for a couple of years now, they have fired on wildlife in this area before.

and yes, they are on duty

will set hippo size to 1 for now, until okmuz is dead... just hope this can be looked at

EDIT: shit, size doesn't affect creatures on the map before the change... maybe il make him evaporate

AFTERMATH EDIT: okmuz is dead... think he needed to target my military dwarves for them to attack him, and as i have all my military dwarves in single unit squads he just took them out one by one (they were all standing in a single tile).
anyways, i changed his speed to 2500 and changed the bolt damage to 500, sure killed him fast even with a single archer... but plz look into this toady, it seems rly strange

I was having problems with this setting too. I had some warthogs interrupting haulers, so I set my squad to harass animals and chase targets, and most of them just ran right past the warthogs (1 or 2 gave chase, but were too slow to actually engage in melee (all wrestlers), so he/they just ran behind the warthog for days   )

Edit: Yes, they were on active duty; I was using the station point in strategic locations to attempt to head off the warthogs and they were running to those just fine... then just standing there.

If somebody's got a save where this is happening I can take a look at it.  That would be the easiest way to create the same situation with the correct settings.

well, ive played ahead so :P
kinda hard tested maybe, but try fiddling with marksdwarves and wildlife, i think it would easily be recreated... hope you get to the issue, as it's a major turnoff to have to edit the raws for continued gaming

The best way to get things fixed is to find the branch with the bug and pull it down so that it becomes low-hanging fruit for Toady.

Yeah, sorry, I'm past that point too, though if it happens again I'll zip one up. The only wild animal on my map right now is in a spot I can't reach.

I do see that I have 40+ warthog meat, though I'm not sure if that's because those one or two did eventually chase them down, if the others decided to help when I wasn't looking, or if it came from the caravan.

alright, another hippo charged my archery range, and killed all of my military dwarves... marksdwarves had 2 champions, about 5 elite and 3 competent, i also had 2 recruits training wrestling, all dead...

my game is modded, so i dont know if the savegame would do you any good... the save is some time before the incident as well

EDIT: posting both savegame and modded raws

I'd just like to point out that this is an extremely funny image.

Okay, I've grabbed it and I'll take a look at some point.  As long as I have everything that's different about the objects folder, it should be fine.
