Colony Control - Look after humans whilst floating on some rock
« on: September 20, 2011, 05:38:22 pm »

So, I've finally decided to reveal what I've been working on, it is a game called Colony Control, in which you play an AI in control of a colony.

I am current accepting alpha signups for when the alpha starts.

As usual you can follow progress here:

Interesting idea, Alfie, but I'd like to see a little of how it pans out before signing up for the alpha.  8)

Signing up anyway, sounds fun.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.  The obvious solution is to chain the baby up at the entrance as a kobold detector.

Sounds cool. I'm gonna watch for a bit for now too, see if it's something I want to get in on.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Watching, but I'll wait until we get some screenshots or whatever before committing to anything. Sounds like a great idea though.

Sounds cool.  I hope I can open all the airlocks if I get vindictive.

I may or may not try it. Is the AI bound by the laws of robotics?

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

Sounds pretty awesome.  Can I let you do that, Dave?

Posting to watch, the premise seems cool, need something substantial though before getting my hopes up.

Would be cool if the humans started trying to shut you down if you killed off too many of them or started being generally evil.

Or if they found themselves having to move boxes, to activate some ground switches, to get past some turrets, only to learn that they could have circumvented the entire thing if they used their portal gun.

Gods yes :P Yeah, you need to add in plenty of ways to be an evil AI. I'm talking Dwarf Fortress levels of evil.

There's already going to be DF level epicness and randomness, the evilness too?

Only if there are kittens.
