Ocean fortress help!
« on: September 20, 2011, 02:39:48 pm »

I've never made an ocean fortress, and i'd like to try one out. However, im a bit worried and as much fun as it would be to do some trial and error I could use some help making one. Just a few tips and such. If it all goes well, maybe i'll try another community fortress or succession fort or something.

Bonus Question: How can I use sharks as a weapon of mass destruction?

You can desalinate water using screw pumps. If the water touches any natural wall or floor, it will resalinate.

I suggest making a caisson as soon as possible. Then you can have an UNDERWATER fortress.

Bonus points if the only thing keeping the little guys alive is a thing wall of glass.

Super Dwarf Bonus if the only thing keeping them alive is screw pumps.

If you mean building OCEAN FORTRESS - burning lignite blocks are viable and Fun solution for removing excess water from the construction site. If you meant ocean shore fortress, then it's boring (unless it is haunted ocean with zombie and skeletal whales) and not FPS-friendly.

Tip/Word of Warning:  If you ever abandon an ocean fortress and attempt to reclaim it, any tunnels under the ocean biome (including the beach) will fill with water.  You can actually see a border of flooded/non-flooded terrain where the biomes cross.  Be sure to make some sort of fortification-based drainage either off the edge of the map or into the caverns before abandoning, or you will have plenty of fun reclaiming.

The history of a good fortress is not written in blood, it's painted on the walls by the hand of a melancholy orphan.

I would see that as a challenge...
Setting up areas which have a drainpump with it connected at different places to drain the next level.
