that actually sounds like a good way for the fortress to go down, all things considered. put up a valiant fight and made sure they weren't quite steamrolled like so many that dig too deep

...plus...um...dfhack introduced an 'unreveal' option, just in case something like that happened

It even works after you've saved, however, it can cause funny issues like miners being trapped in the middle of urevealed (but mined!) rock and being unable to path.

No it doesn't.  I tried.  Unreveal didn't work.

I make this mistake sometimes. Theres no way to unreveal after its been revealed/saved/exited while revealed. You will need to abandon and reclaim, or start over. DFlair prevents item scatter..so cleanups easier.

At any rate, I'm gonna get a clean install of the game with only dfhack and mods to make kobolds survive (noeat, nodrink, intelligent, canlearn), and start over somewhere.  Dunno where.  Maybe I'll try haunted again.

my vote's still for my favorite type of area, which also happens to be pretty hard to find, sadly. a spot that's got three biomes that meet up, one good, one evil, and savage in there, too. sometimes alone, sometimes mixed with the good or evil. though i also narrow things down based on what i want. if i'm after unicorns, good forests. if after beak dogs, evil marshes. stuff like that

i started doing this to try to get access to all the good and evil plants (i've used the random plant generator, it's fun and spews out some crazy, crazy plants. only keep some of them, though), but sadly, they don't show up currently. i miss my sun berries

Really?  I've not had a problem getting it to work.

You might want to try revflood instead of unreveal .

Created a new world, medium, medium history, low civ and sites, very high beasts, mineral deposits everywhere.  Searching this world for 5x5, low savagery, high evil, flux, no aquifer, multiple shallow and deep metals, soil, and clay.

Found a suitable location.  I changed it to 4x7 to avoid having a calm location in my spawn (because calm is for pussies amirite?) while still keeping the river near the center of the map (it is south of center as there's another calm area to the south).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fortress name is (with only some modification) "Bronzeharvest the Dead-Home

Group name is "The Quest of Fortunes".  I might make all this into an Overseer Melissia letter in a bit.  Just recording it for later.

I see phantom spider webs!  Awesome.  The place is snowed over with ice in the water-- the location is temperate, so I'll need a water source underground-- I would anyway cause it's evil.  Will probably divert cavern water for the purpose, using a bridge to keep unwanted creatures out (yay for upright bridges functioning as walls and thus not being attacked by building destroyers).

Once again the deadliest (or at least most annoying) creature I face at first are badgers.

My axedwarf now has fifteen badger kills.  I have yet to put down a single workshop.

THERE IS NO END TO THEM!

Killed a werewolf (Which killed off one of my dogs-- there goes my breeding pair, hope a migrant brings a female dog.

So far, 24 badger kills.  STILL TOO MANY BADGERS AROUND.
