It happens. You are REALLY lucky when you get a spire ascending past the surface.

Using dfhack's reveal function (yes, I know, cheating... but I don't want to open that until I'm ready, because I plan on settling it, including getting water down there to start a farm), apparently it does not open into the circus until the magma layer.  So... lots of (relatively-- sixty or so levels of cavern 3 and the levels between cavern 3 and the magma level-- which so far is flesh balls and cave blobs, but I know other things can come in to that level) safe candy?  About sixty layers... Armok.  Candy canes will be popular...

What say you guys about my next fort being exclusively narratively described from the eyes of the expedition leader?

Those can always been amusing. Especially if the overseer is utterly unabalanced and psychotic.

I can always use runesmith to edit his traits so s/he's a bit... unhinged...

Gonna create a thread in the community stories section for it.  Feel free to comment in here.

I'm going to use my old adventuring character for this-- she had no social skills and, as you can see in this thread, tended to have a very dry, factual, vindictive, and snarky way of speaking, especially in letters.

Yes, I think that'd be interesting to read. Always nice to see the world (or fort in this case) in the eyes of one of it's inhabitants rather than the god who's watching it all go to !!FUN!!land.

Okay, so it's up, and I'm back from class.  Time to update my Overseer Melissia Project.

It's been a few days... feel bad for neglecting this. I haven't played this in a few days, or much of any games really.  It's gettin' near that  time-- midterms are coming up, so that meanst tests and reviews and homework and projects and etc.  Bleh.
