Save scummed, and scum saved.  Will come back when my marksdwarves are elite and try to pepper the frakker with iron bolts.

I'd like to think that after an epic battle, the FB finally began to succumb to its wounds and sensing its end, it released a suicidal blast of primoridal toxins.

Too bad for the dwarfs attacking it.

My adventurer could fight something like that with some luck (legendary ambusher + legendary weapons, dodging, etc, and superior or better toughness and disease resistance) but my dwarves-- not so much.  But it's okay, there's nothing left of value on the cavern now that I have this:

Already another construction.  This time, one of my two doctors has taken over a metalsmith's forge.

Should I edit the first post to include the info on all the artifacts made so far?

Might as well. Artifacts are fun!

And that's a pretty great artifact to install in a main dining room or barracks. Or perhaps as a portcullis to a vault.

Put it somewhere where it will be frequently seen to increase the happiness of your dwarves.

I'll put it next to the staircase then, on my crafting level.

I could also put it in my speardwarves' barracks, they seem eternally unhappy for some reason.

As an aside, I have commissioned ten god statues, and am now deciding on where to put them.  My new goldworker is helping make them, so there's several masterwork statues.

I'm putting a few of them in my new sword-dwarf barracks.

I have to say, I really admire you for mastering the military panel so quickly. I've been playing since 40d, and I still can't figure out that control panel.

I think since you have previous experience with a simpler system, a more difficult system in it's place is harder to deal with.

I didn't have much trouble with it either, and I started on 2010. :P

Still working on patrol routes admittantly but that's neither here nor there.

I would say I haven't mastered it.  I still don't use patrols, and I haven't yet used burrows successfully.  I baslcally only ever put my dwarves on training (changing the minimum as per the size of the squad), and then use the s (squads) menu to issue direct orders.

Still haven't figured out how to make sure my marksdwarves actually use the burrow I put for them... I want them next to the fortifications on the second level of the outer fort, so they can rain bolts down on my enemies...

And here is my list of artifacts thus far, a nice variety I'm sure you'll agree.  I put it on the first post too, and I'll update that if/when I get another one.

Under orders there should be an option to defend that burrow. Just set the marksdwarves to that.
