It looks vaguely like a heart.  (A real heart, not those stupid Valentines things.)

I think you mean every dwarf in my fortress is doomed.

Also, my photobucket account's name (melissiablackheart) should probably have given you that much idea if you checked the URLs of my images :D

It is now a black iron heart! You should be proud! Now you just need to reinforce the veins for the gravel you are gonna pump through them!

Well yeah, I wouldn't expect my dwarves to use non-blackened iron.  Blackened iron and steel don't need to be polished as much and are more resistant to rust-- much more efficient.

There's a DFhack command for digging veins out?  What is this shenanigans?  I've been manually mining veins this whole time.

Or, ya know, you could just mine Candy but do so carefully.

Melissia Blackheart is a pretty awesome Adventurer name, I'll give you that.

Yeah, it's vdig and vdigx.

Vdig sticks to one z-level, while vdigx digs stairs to z-levels in the same vein.

I plan on having my candy become swords, to make an elite swordsdwarf squad.

you should end up with quite a bit unless you're unlucky and get a very tall stick.  Enough to fully equip your dwarves with full Candy armor and weapons (except blunt force weapons because it's too light)

Hm.  Once I get magma, I need to start getting biblical with some of my more eternally unhappy dwarves...

I would recommend giving dwarves candy chain-mail (since chainmail is bad against what candy's bad against) and weapons (sans hammers and crossbows (sans your guard when dealing with crossbows.)) The solid components of the dwarven armor suit I tend to make out of steel or bronze.
