If I'm right here, it looks like....

Pump Stack A requires 50 power.
Pump Stack B requires 260 power.
Pump Stack C requires 140 power..

So I'm guessing... one mini-dihydrogen monoxide reactor for A, two full dihydrogen monoxide for B, and one full dihydrogen monoxide reactor for C?

... my smithy forged a statue of a dwarf making a door.

Amusing.

Okay, cleared out a 10x15x2 area for my oxidane/dihydrogen monoxide reactor for Pump Stack A.  This is excessive, but seeing as I'm collecting lots of marble, tetrahedrite, galena, sphalerite, yellow beryls, etc I'm fine with excessive.

What exactly can I do with this artifact ring-- can I sell it... or is it just somethign I'll have to give to a dwarf to make them happy... or just sit there looking pretty in my stockpile?

In vanilla DF... nothing, really, since you can't sell artifacts, and currently dwarves will only own clothing/military food rations.  They won't even get happy thoughts from it being around.  Since artifacts are indestructible, you can possiblyhave fun by making a permanent ‼ring‼ (depending on material flammability?).  For the next world, you can mod in Display Cases in which to put otherwise useless Artifact trade goods, so at least then you can use them to boost room value/induce happy thoughts.

Ah.  So all it does is increase the value of my settlement.

Okay, graphics card thought it overheated (it's an OLD card, it does this sometimes because it sometimes thinks one of its fans is disconnected; I'll replace it with xmas money) and soft-rebooted my computer.

I lost very little progress, thankfully.

I've had this happen before with a legendary engraver. He (and his various masterwork engravings) was one of his own favorite subjects - the dining hall had about 20 self-portraits; engravings of a dwarf engraving.

As for the crash, I'd recommend using a seasonal autosave, if you haven't done so already. I always sucks to lose progress to a crash near the end of the season, but it helps most times.

I imagine the statue being of the dwarf, standing next to the door with his hand on it, thumbs up, smiling

Like an old timey ad if you will.

If I need to transer power across z-levels, can a machine merely be next to a vertical axle, or does it need a gear assembly?

Gear assembly is required.

Thanks.  Hopefully I can link all of my Oxidane (DHMO) Reactors to one system.

I use overhead gears to do it.  Reduces the potential spillage with underside gears and makes any possible maintainance (due to that pesky troll that always gets through) easy.

Code: [Select]
=====G========G========G=== --> to load  -- Z+2
     |        |        |   -- Z+1
 (reactor)(reactor)(reactor) -- Z+0 and Z-1

Of course, I use extended reactor arrays, so 4-40 (rows - number of reactors per row) usually provides enough power for multiple magma pump stacks and anything else I can think of.

I can provide a more detailed schematic if you wish, but it will be in image form.

I recently installed a five reactor power station*.  I had axles between the reactors directly and it leaked all over.  So I tore it partially out and went to overhead gears for power transmission.  Much cleaner running and I also endorse using that method.

*- Running a 47-pump stack (primary magma), 8-pump stack (secondary magma, and a 6-pump mist generator for the main Dining Hall.

By the way, anything new on the goblin front?

Needs to be vertical, almost staggered.  From pump stack A to B it moves west, then B to C it moves north.  I provided an image of the general outline of what I'm gonna have to do earlier...

By the way, anything new on the goblin front?
After the third ambush they kinda gave up it  seems.

That or they're preparing for a true invasion this time.
