Okay, I really need some help here. 3 days ago, I pirated Dead Island and tried to get it running online with my friends ( I know piracy isn't good, but I rarely ever do it, and I had no money for a new game, and I really just needed something to get my mind off school ) I used this suspicious program to supposedly crack the game through Steam and then play online... Well that didn't work, and the next day, it said my Steam account was on another computer. I was so stupid for using that program, but I instantly knew what was going on. I registered on Steam Support, using the same information as my Steam account, same password, same email, same all that. I sent a complaint in, and got a response in not too long, saying that since I bought a game they needed credit card information to verify my account. I responded to this with my mom's credit card information, and got no reply that day, or today. Now I'm very worried, because I went to log on to Steam Support and I couldn't. I used the retrieve login password, and it says they sent me information to reset my account... I have not gotten an email so far. I checked all the emails I use to sign up for everything, the junk bins and everything no dice.
So, I know I'm in deep shit here. I don't doubt those emails from Steam are legit, I registered through Steampowered.com, and signed up through there, that's 100% legit, but I think this dude is in my email. He got the email from my Steam Account, and then he just used the same password on my email, and now I think he did the same for my Steam Support account. ( In fact I'm certain he did, I went onto Steam support and put in my email, the ones they've been sending messages to, so I know it's correct, and when I hit "Send Password Reset Information" or whatever, it says that email isn't registered )
I'm certain this dude has my mom's credit card information, but what do I do now!

Your in some serious shit right now, Alright 2 things of advice.

1.Tell your mom, its best to be truthful and let her know whats going on with HER account.

2.Send another email to steam with a different account and tell them the same stuff.

Also, change the password to your email. It's better to have two layers of security in the future too. If the hacker does have your email, you may need to let your mom know to cancel her credit card as well, before she is scammed, since the info is in an email to steam support. Perhaps they can even get the hacker that way.

Also, you might want to have email verification in the future, if you don't already. That and an email makes it hard to get into your account.

Okay, I did part 1, and as for telling Steam what I did, do you think they'll bust me for piracy? I know that should be the least of my worries with my mom's bank account on the line here, but still.

You pirateing a game may be illegal but stealing someones email, account and credit card number, is in my opinion, way worse. Tell them and if you get fined, pay it and be done.

And let it be a lesson to you about involving others in your crimes. These scams are meant specifically for impulsive kids. Telling your mom might get you in trouble, but your man is counting on that to keep you quiet. For all intents and purposes, you have already been caught for piracy. Better you get a fine than you destroy your family.


EDITNOTE: Your pirated games will never operate reliably in multiplayer. There is no program that will ever change that. If you want to play with your friends, either buy the game or play something else. This is directed both at you and at all the lurking preteens who will one day make your mistake.

The first order of business is to change your password on everything that you used the same password for. Don't change them all to the same thing, either.

I think the first thing you'll need to do is cancel the credit card or something like that, with someone's credit card/bank information they could do some serious damage/identity theft.

Honestly I don't see the part of this where he had to tell them that he pirated a game.

By all means the only important information to Steam was that he downloaded a program or file that turned out to be malicious that stole his steam account.

In investigating, I'm pretty sure they're going to find out an unauthorized program registered a game to his Steam account. Maybe that's not within the power but I'm pretty sure it is. While you don't necessarily need to offer up that information, I'd be prepared for Valve to know about it and decided to just deactivate your account. If there's one thing they really don't like, it's registering your pirated game on Steam. It's a loop hole they can't close, but they can prosecute your account standing because of it.

The main reason i said to tell steam is because if hes truthful, then hell be in less trouble then if he didnt tell them. Also, make sure to delete Dead island As soon as you get your account back or youll be in Big trouble afterwards.
