You could have modded aquifers out of the raws, dug down, then put them back in, I suppose.

That didn't last long, huh? Shame, cause binary's cool. Anyway, an important message: I will be changing my names on every username based thing I use to ASCIt on/around 10/1. Consolidating, I guess you could say.

Instant flooded fort on loading save = win.

But I'd have walled it off to prevent just that, although it would have made a nice story.

If you were racing to find the blue stuff, then digging through 12 aquifers may not have been the thing for you. However, it could have led to some seriously awesome dungeon traps...

12-lvl aquifer and it starts right on the first z-lvl under the surface? That breaks quite a few of the rules I had developed about aquifiers for myself. I'd be interested in the map gen, and location if you still have it, or save.

be sure to check the "Ubenudil, the soapmakers' fort" thread here in community games and stories.
Not only is it truly awesome but also implements a way of piercing 12-z level aquifer.

Yeah, that was my reaction too :(

I've also got other screwed up things, like Slade clusters and the basement of the Fun Lowest Level being made of silty loam instead of Slade.  So this is really just a drop in the bucket.

I'll also note I did end up finding one location where it was only 8z due to a few (non-slade!) ore clusters but that's of little use because it was under the river.

The channeling down and hitting aquifer was only on the edges near the valley slopes, but it left me with far too small of blocks of usable material, so I had no options regardless.

I'll see if I can dig up the save, but I may not be able to get it up for a while.  Alas, I work the rest of the week. :(

If it gets cold enough, you could try freezing your way through.

Sounds glorious! I'd so make a fort in the aquifer itself. It'd be slow going, treacherous, and ultimately the more awesome for it.

That would be quite the story in the end. This is Waterworks, the fortress carved from an aquifer...

You could totally line hallways with reservoirs of water, and whenever you are invaded, you seal up your dwarves in barracks/dorm rooms with food stockpiles, then have someone pull the lever that opens a floodgates at choke points on hallways, instantly flooding the invaders away.

No seriously. If someone made that, I would give them major dwarf points.

Carp. Now I want a 12z aquifer.

Building a fort totally within the aquifer would definately be awesome. And slow going would not even begin to describe such a task. I'd probably turn the invaders off for the first decade or so, as the aquifer would probably be enough of a headache by itself.

Yes, invaders and aquifer qualifies as excessive FUN. Unless of course you realize that you've got an infinite source of Invader drowning. Build walls, and pump water out of the aquifer to wash away your enemies!
