Warwilf? (Or for the MST3k deprived, Werewolves)
« on: September 19, 2011, 05:48:38 pm »

I was just reading Toady's update about werewolves in the upcoming version.  Is lycanthropy going to be limited to NPCs?  I think it would add even more Fun to the game if Urist McWhatever gets bitten, then Urist McDoctor has so long to treat his wounds (perhaps with wolfsbane even!) and if not...well...Urist McWerewolf is even hairier than before  and eats Urist McCrazyCatGuy's 27th cat...

I did look around, and I didn't see yes or no either way, maybe I didn't look hard enough?   ;D

Listen to the DFTalks. One of them talks about night creatures in detail.

Yes, dwarves can be bitten. Yes, adventurers can be werewolves.

Time to plan the quarantine rooms. I hope this is gonna create some sort of paranoia, with no sure way for player to know if the dwarf is a werewolf until the worst happens.

So, in theory, I could get half of my fortress infected by werewolves, and the other half infected by vampires, and start the ultimate loyalty cascade?

That didn't last long, huh? Shame, cause binary's cool. Anyway, an important message: I will be changing my names on every username based thing I use to ASCIt on/around 10/1. Consolidating, I guess you could say.

yeah

In fact, there was discussion on what happens if all of your dwarves get infected by the same werewolf.

Basically, it was decided that Toady needs to find some way to get past the "werewolves aren't citizens and therefore will cause game over if all of the dwarves turn at the same time" issue.

Huh, that would be a very interesting consequence. I wonder where this will lead to...

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

IIRC Toady's were-animals are not necessarily wolves. The creature is chosen semi-randomly, I think. Toady mentions weregoats and werelizards in the devlog. Werebadgers might be interesting.

Ooh, I think I know a way around the fort-crumbling effect of having all of the dwarves turned...

Split it roughly three ways with vampires, lycans, and necromancer-raised zombies!!! (Assuming necromancy can be a job or some such in fort mode.)

You'd need the secret to do it, however :/

The vampires would counteract the crumbling, because that's passive, I believe. You could however, just have one sterile dwarf in a panic room  ;)
