Oh man, that's an awesome geo survey team. I seem to recall reading somewhere on the game's forums that it caps out somewhere around 150 anyway, so it might be in our interests to just have 'em hit Earth. Or maybe hold off until we see what the long-term prospects for the rest of the inner solar system are. If they're not too good, maybe we should hold off and maximize our chances with Earth.

I think I'd vote for taking our chances and surveying Earth first, though.

Since we're in a corundium crunch, I say we stay the course and make for the next engine tech. Unless there's some high accessibility corundium on Venus or Mercury, we can bide our time and have a fast freighter to take automines we build in the meantime.

My gut instinct on converting regular mines is to avoid it; Earth's still going to be our primary source of minerals for a while, even if it's a little subpar. It'll take us longer to build automines whole cloth, but it's a long term prospect either way it looks like - unless the inner system survey goes well. Also, making automines will increase our productivity on Earth until they're shipped off; converting them would just be a cost sink.

A 20% boost to our mining productivity sounds like it could be worth it in the long run, so maybe diverting a lab or two to our construction/production guy would be worth it. Or we could just wait until the cargo handling research is done; I'm not sure which would be more efficient.

So, bolding the gist of what I think we should do:

Build automines from scratch as corundium becomes available
Have the survey team survey Earth (and cross your fingers)
Hold off on new ship construction until we get the next engine tech
Research Mining Rate 12 (either after cargo handling is done or by diverting a lab from cargo handling to it)

Since I assume you don't get them on a conventional start, we need to remember to research mass drivers at some point too, although I guess we could just have freighters set to nab minerals if it's too much of an RP sink. I think we should split our construction capacity between labs and shipyards, with a stronger focus on labs so we can get our tech up.

I agree with building increased amounts of labs. Even after Earth runs out of resources, it will still be useful as a research center. Also, I would recommend surveying the asteroids relatively soon. They often provide a good short term boost, since the accessibility is usually around .7-.8, and occasionally a CMC will pop up, which would boost our tax revenue, or provide additional minerals.

Just started playing again. Not sure if I'll get another post done today, but I thought I'd report on something kinda funny.

I unloaded the survey team on earth. A month later they found 200k duranium, and completed the survey of Earth. One find on Earth, thats all we get. Talk about bad luck, hahaha. I've had better results with skill 50 teams.

I went ahead and built one more survey ship, just to speed up the surveying of Sol. They're cheap anyway, and don't use any minerals we're short of.

Venus has been surveyed, and found to be completely barren of TN minerals as well. With our mineral prospects looking grim, I've recalled the geosurvey team to seek out more mineral resources on Earth. The Ptolemy can survey Luna while it's here.

Good news! They found minerals on Luna, and in significantly higher quantities than those found on Earth. It's only a few types, and no Corundium which we're running short of - but it's a good sign that we might find more in the rest of the solar system.

The survey team found new deposits of Duranium on Earth, a total of 200,000 tons. Sadly, they don't believe any new mineral deposits are to be found there.

I was also informed that our production expert, Aulus Nepius Pantera, has been studying and has improved his understanding of the technology. (15% bonus).

We've found deposits of minerals on Mercury. Still no corundium, though. I'll have the geology team dropped off there by the Ptolemy before heading for the asteroid belt.

The Ptolemy 2 has just launched and been sent to help survey the asteroid belt.

Survey results so far have been promising, finding high accessibility deposits of various minerals - but still no corundium.

Survey of the asteroid belt is complete. They also surveyed a few comets currently passing through the asteroid belt. There is good news for corundium - several of the asteroids have significant deposits. Asteroid 162 has 5625 at 1 accessibility, asteroid 65 has 10,404 at 0.9 accessibility. Comet 4 also has 16,000 at 0.8 accessibility. They all also have various other minerals.

The geology team on Mercury also found 48,220 more sorium, and tripled the accessibility to 0.3.

The survey vessels are heading out to survey the outer solar system now.

Conversion of 320 mines has been completed, and the rest will be converted to construction factories by October. I've begun construction of automated mines, so that we can begin harvesting minerals from the asteroids and comets we've surveyed.

We've completed the conversion of conventional industry. I've ordered another 20 construction factories to be built outright to give us a larger construction capacity. Now that we have no conventional industry, fuel refineries will need to be built to continue generating fuel. I've only ordered one built so far.

Cargo handling systems have been researched. To increase mineral production, Aulus Nepius Pantera has begun research on increasing our mining rate. He should have a 20% boost to our mining efficiency by May of 2110.

Construction of our first commercial shipyard is complete, and it has been launched into orbit. Work now begins to expand it to be capable of producing large cargo vessels. We're also beginning construction on more research labs using the facilities previously devoted to the shipyard.

Research on pebble bed reactors is complete, and MonkeyHead has further improved his education on propulsion (30%). Work on nuclear pulse engine technology has begun, which should be finished in August 2110 - or sooner if additional labs are allocated.

Numerius Falerius Arruntius has also studied hard and increased his knowledge of sensor tech (30%). This will be a boon when we begin developing sensors.

A survey on Mercury increased accessibility of Duranium from .8 to .9 as well, and I've personally picked up a few new tricks in promoting population growth (25%).

Another lab has been completed. It has been assigned to the mining production research, which should now be completed in December 2109. We've also finished the 20 construction factories and focused 80% of construction on research labs now, with the other 20% going toward automated mines - of which we've built 7 so far.

They found 100,000 tons of 0.2 accessibility Uridium on Mercury. We also built another lab, and assigned it to mining production as well. Once that's finished they can research construction rate, which will help in building up our research labs.

We've completed research on mining production, and I kept Aulus going on his next planned project - construction rate. I just assigned him another lab that was completed, and he now has seven - which means the project should be finished this time next year.

Akigagak has the Ptolemy on its way back from the Kuiper belt for refueling now, and the Ptolemy 2 will be following shortly. They've surveyed about two-thirds of the Kuiper belt so far.

Since the Ptolemy 1 is already halfway back to the Kuiper belt, I'll have the Ptolemy 2 pick them up and drop them off on Venus when it gets back for refueling in 71 days.

The geology team quickly finished their survey of Venus. They found 200,000 tons of access 0.9 duranium, 100,000 tons of access 0.9 corbomite, and 91566 tons of access 0.1 Boronide. I suspect someone aboard the Ptolemy 1 wasn't doing his job when they reported Venus has no minerals. Since both survey ships are way out in the Kuiper belt, the survey team will have to wait on Venus for a while.

Aulus Nepius Pantera completed his study of construction rates, and has boosted our efficiency by 20%. He now begins a long term study on research efficiency, but I've only alloted him two research facilities in favor of completing more immediate goals - like the new engines.

The commercial shipyard is still being expanded to fit this size of ship. It's currently at 47,000 tons, with another 5000 due in March 2111. It should be ready to build our first cargo vessel some time next year.

Both of our survey vessels have returned from the Kuiper belt. Our entire system is now surveyed for minerals, and many promising sites have been found.

MonkeyHead has proposed research into theoretical jump points that might be a way to travel to other systems. I've given him five labs for this research. I'm also giving Aulua Nepius Pantera another three labs, Zebulon two labs to work on high density duranium armor, and the last two I've assigned to Numerius Falerius Arruntius to develop active search sensor technology.

The next thing I think we should do is to prepare for the colonization of... Venus I think (can't remember but I seem to recall Venus and Mars are colonizable).

We'll probably want marines, which are 2x as good at boarding actions as other types. To get them we need mobile infantry (2500), assault infantry (5000), and marines (10,000) - so all total it will be 17500 rps before we can actually train marine battalions. Plus another 5000 if we want companies.  We could just go with battalions and eventually develop a 1000 ton fast attack craft with an engine and a drop module, they're easier to micromanage anyway (1/5 as many orders to get boarding done, which requires loading them individually and then dropping them individually).

I also just realized I need to pick up cryogenic transport so I can make a colony ship before assigning the shipyard if I want to build them both in the same one, I'll divert some labs to quickly pick that up. Then I'll leave some with troop research so we can start training marines.

We'll need borading troops, but also occupation troops. Let's get mobile Infantry and train a cohort of them.

I forgot to mention our low tech infantry.

We have 5 low tech armor and 10 low tech infantry. They can be converted to cadres to reduce the cost of other infantry.

The armor ones reduce the cost of heavy assault, marines, or HQs. The infantry reduce the cost of mobile infantry, assault infantry, engineers, and garrisons.

Heh, I just realized we lack an energy weapons scientist. Not sure how I overlooked mentioning that before. So we lack a missile guy AND an energy weapon guy, which basically means we have no weapon tech researchers at all. Pfft, and they call themselves romans.

Agree with this.
Also, if even if we don't have any weapons researchers, we should still do some research on capacitor recharge rates and such, for when we do get good researchers.

I'd also like to put in my recommendation for colonizing Mars in the near future. The trade revenue will be useful even if there are no significant mineral deposits.

How's this for an idea, colonize planets based on Roman ideas of what they represented, ie mars is a war facilty, mercury trade.
