Put a door on the 'shop your unappeasable moody claims.  If he berserks, it will pause and center, allowing you to simply lock the door and wait for Uberdwarf the Insane to starve/dehydrate.  When the miasma clears, open it up to reclaim corpse/gear.

This is, incidentally, half the reason why I build all workshops as single rooms (Looking better is the other half)

With one of the central walls (usually north center or south center) replaced by a door.

I haven't failed a mood in a LONG time -- I may not make cloth, but I trade for copious quantities early, meaning that I'll have as much Fiber/Wool/Silk as I need.  Glassmaking moods are a little harder, as an embark will often have no sand, but I've learned to trade for sand and raw glass in quantities sufficient to feed any moods that come up.  I suppose an early metal mood would be similarly problematic, but solvable.

A desire for raw gems might be problematic in one of my latest fortresses, as I've been cutting them all for windows for my arena.  Nothing a little exploratory mining can't fix?

Damn, this makes me glad I built my workshops as 5v5 single rooms (3x3 for the workshop itself, the rest for the workshop's own personal storage).

I just need to build a bunch of doors now :D

My Smithy just got in a fey mood and immediately went to work!  Woot!
