Damn buzzards.
« on: September 18, 2011, 01:39:08 am »

I have a buzzard problem and my marksdwarves cannot aim for shit.  The buzzards keep causing job cancellations with my above ground structure that I'm working on.  Considering my marksdwarves can't aim, clearly, what's the best course of action?

War dogs.

Only helps for the ones that get close.  :(

MAGMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
from above, of course.

Of course.

Or pressurized from below, if you want to get technical. Vertical magma shotgun!

Better still.

Can you put a 1*1 food stockpile near a cage trap? They kept nicking my food.

At least... they provide marksdwarf training.

Someday (if you have no magma) they will be able to shoot one...

I actually kept getting ATTACKED by a Buzzard at the start of a game.

Which was odd, because the game took place in a Serene environment.  Yet it was the only one where I was ever attacked by wildlife right at the start.

Set your outside food on fire. Alternatively if a buzzard starts attacking a dwarf, draft it and have it fight back.

Try assigning a few hunters, they'll sneak at the range of fire first unlike triggerhappy military (if you give an order to kill one buzzard they start firing at any they see, even the ones across map). Or make food stockpile surrounded with serrated disk traps outside.

A low ceiling and some weapon traps?  Or better, cage traps, so that you can train archers!  War dogs too, if you pasture them over the food stockpile they do a fair job of protecting against badgers and buzzards.  But not giant badgers.  Of course nothing entirely protects you from those, so that's not a fair comparison.

A food stockpile for my (still training) military is in a constructed building which is the one they're trying to get to.  Still.  With a roof over it and 20 guard dogs fps eaters around it, they can't actually steal any.
