I believe it's exactly how good MLP could be, since this is the best use for them anyone can make up, especially because of the way this'll all end. Yep, floods happen.

Although, there's one unfortunate thing about this, if they are covered in magma in the end (or simply burnt away), none will know their tale.

Thanks! And I'm being careful not to be flooded. The only thing I can see going wrong is an inconveniently timed FB attack. Or a pegasi siege, but that's why I'm going to build a roof over the outdoor area.
