for some reason i cant assign my (steel battle axe) to my axeman or any of the rest of my dwarfs, anyone know why?

also the previous owner went insane and died so i don't think its ownership

Is it a (weapon) or a {weapon}? The latter are forbidden and must be reclaimed, the former just aren't native to your fortress.

Also, I'm not certain, but it might follow the same thing as arrows, where some are for woodcutting, and some are for war. I have no idea honestly, never bothering with the military myself beyond marksdwarves.

If it's in a stockpile, it's not an issue with the woodcutter uniform.

Try hitting "m - e" and equpping that exact item on the first dwarf in the first squad (from the "m - e" menu, not the uniform menu). If that doesn't get it picked up, I have no idea. That will usually even make them drop weapons they've grown attached to.

Is it in the hands of a woodcutter? You can check that by calling it on the detailed stock screen and zooming on it.

no its not, you havn't been reading.

its just sittin around in the middle of my custom stockpile, it has no settings, as in melt forbid and dump are all off, its not showing up on the equips list when i try to equip my guys, and he wont pick up ANY weapons if i just set it to have him pick up battle axes, tho i have 2 others in my stockpile as well.

Is he set to active?

A lot of times i find that if the soldier is on inactive they drop all their equipment/weapons.

Try setting the squad to station in the middle of a hallway, and see if he picks it or another axe up.

Does his squad have an assignment? He won't grab equipment until necessary.

You can just add a battle axe to his weapons, and specify using the M button.

I had this problem.  Go to the military screen, and remove him completely from the squad.

Wait until he has stripped off and heads for the meeting hall. Then put him back in his squad.

Then station the squad, and when he appears for duty, give him a look.  He should be properly equipped.

the item isnt on the list when i look in spacific weapons in the [W]eapons tab in the [E]quipment tab in [M]ilitary

nope but i have all the rest of my guys set in equipment and he just runs out and wrestles as he apparently can't see the axe.

i'll try this if it don't work i'm taking KtosoX's suggestion and upping my save


yea its as if the axes in my stockpile dont exist when i go into "specific weapon"

he even gets the axedwarf title as if he was going to use an axe but he just never picks it up.  the first name is "Adil" and he is the only Adil on the squad, for when i up it in a sec

its 7.9 mb :| it may take a wile to download but it uped quickly
