You ride towards Scotland for about 7 hours before it gets Dark enough that continuing would be dangerous. You estimate you're perhaps a third of the way there.

You take your horse off the path and, lacking a way to tie it to anything for the night, realize you may have a problem.

Sleep on the horse.

To express that as being "uncomfortable," particularly for a Crown Prince of the Land, would not do the discomfort justice.

We're not sleeping in the horse while it's standing, we're pushing the horse on the ground and making him stay that way for our comfort.

Or, we could just tie the horse to itself and find a decent pile of hay or something moderately soft. Since the horse has the same weight as itself, it will be unable to pull itself, resulting in him being actively restrained and most probably staying in one area.

Set up camp by finding a few sticks and lighting a fire. Look for some leaves and make a bed out of it.

Finally, eat the eclair and let the horse graze.

Sleep on the horse. Force it down onto the ground and sleep on its back.
