Tricky thing is that a person often doesn't even know what exactly they think about an issue, and knowing someone's thoughts is very different from knowing what to do with them.

People are complicated, I should know I am one... I think.

I believe it was BOB Dobbs who said "You'd PAY to know what you really think!"

If you can read minds, what are you actually reading? Their verbalized thoughts, or something deeper than that? The latter would provide a level of (one-way) communication that can't be accomplished with words, and either would allow an interesting perspective on how people use language.
Assuming you read minds in the way people think, that'd even further my resolve to help out the APA with mind reading abilities.  Finding the exact motions that the mind goes through in thinking is massively helpful.  Even if I received the data in a more abstract form, however, it could still help a bit.

I would abuse the heck out of it.  'Good, Evil and Curiosity', I would do all 3.
I am not constrained by morals or the likes when it comes to experimentation and SCIENCE!... especially if I can get away with it.  Most especially when it tickles my curiosity...

Otherwise, personal gain and whenever I'm arsed to help.  I would also keep it secret at all costs, cause I ain't wanting to be nabbed by no gov't agents or anything of the likes.

Also, I have a content/lazy personality, so I'd probably use it enough to get to get myself set-up and comfortable and to keep it there.  Rest of the times after that, sating my curiosity and probably developing my mind powers.
There is a good chance though, that as I learn more of my powers...  I would be compelled to do more with it.  For good, evil or SCIENCE!... I will continue pushing the limits.
The Curiosity trait has a good chance of trumping my Content trait.

I would go exploit Casinos. Make a barrel of money, and then go to college and become super-teacher on my own time.

I would then use my powers to find reasons to get shitty teachers fired and publicly humiliated.

BWAHAHAHA!

Would never work, if you find any way to exploit casinos they kick you out and never let you back in, sometimes refusing to redeem your chips, and they aren't even required to give reasons why, so as soon as you start winning it is over.

The trick is to only win so much. If you don't get out of control, and keep your winnings on the low side, going to several, you might be able to avoid such a thing.

Especially if you can hear stray thoughts such as 'this guy is winning way too much...'

Casino hopping might work for a little while, although rest assured, they track every win, so you would need to keep it minimal.

I'd figure out a way to prove myself to the CIA that I exist and interrogate people. I'd also want to be scientifically studied, but no invasive surgery please!

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

Didn't I say no invasive surgery? I'd get studied weather or not I wanted to if I proved myself to the CIA anyway.

Besides, all you need is one or two "lucky" breaks to make it big. After that, you can keep your earnings down to fairly low percentages of your prior earnings while still making a decent sum of money. Or hell, live off the interest.
