You're learning about Dwarf Fortress the Aussie Guy way - watch it all go to hell and build an insanely complex and awesome fortress with the surviving few.

I have 850 filled coffins in my fortress, with another dozen corpses in unrecoverable places.  When the next update comes, I'll have an ARMY of the undead.

Include a way  to flood your burial area with magma.


Or hell, magma  all bodies and engrave slabs.

You really, REALLY, don't want to magma that many corpses.  You'll be engraving personalized slabs for a long, long time if you want to get rid of the resulting ghosts.  And they WILL be violent or at least haunting a specific dwarf to keep him/her unhappy if they all died fighting in a tantrum spiral.  It wouldn't be pretty.  Don't ask me how I know...
