The Stray War dog (tame) has been killed by a trap.

A weapon trap, with large Copper dagger x 5, Iron short sword x 1, Iron long sword x 3, and Iron scimitar x 1.

It's possible the dog died of it's wounds on top of the trap- It's entire front half was bright red (mangled).

Tame dogs sometimes set off traps.  A few other people have been having the same problem.

I had a dog caught in a cage trap.  I think she was charging at some goblins who were trespassing at the time, so maybe it has something to do with that.

I've had tame wolves killed in weapon traps as well. I said the meeting area on top of a pile of stone/weapon traps.

I was thinking about this... Is it possible that the dog and an enemy scout where on the same tile?  The trap might not go off because of the enemy scout, but when the dog steps on it, the trap goes, "There is someone who would trigger this trap here.  There is someone who isn't stealthed here.  The two requirements are met, and so I trigger"

I just had an image of a large serrated disc in a slot in the ground, with a very friendly smiley face on it, twisted into deep thought: to buzz out and slice something or not to buzz out and slice something, that is the question.

Then:
