Sadly, it is pretty hard to make an RPG plot that isn't predictable. Even good GMs struggle with it.

The main issue is saturation. You can't mention a chair in detail without it being obvious that it's a plot chair unless you mention every chair in detail which is bothersome all around.

Well, saturation and its counterpart, short attention spans and lack of critical thinking in general. But those are at least related to the expectations of not every chair being described in detail (and thus important chairs being so), and the facts that hindsight is 20/20 and reality is complicated.

Not only is that not the point, there'd have been fewer party members to split the resulting xp with! Damned cheating railroading DMs!
