Hopefully he didn't take any damage in the game beforehand... A 1d3 can be fatal to a first level wizard!

Glyphgryph as well. We spent the major part of one session trying to interrogate a poor lizardman, and most of that was spent wondering what the hell the poor bastard was saying to us. Though, that was just written dialect.

Also SURPRISE TWIST ;D

Quote from: Wipkipedia
Nicolas Flamel (French pronunciation: [nikɔˈla flaˈmɛl]; September 28,1330–1418) was a successful French scrivener and manuscript-seller who developed a posthumous reputation as an alchemist due to his reputed work on the philosopher's stone.

According to the introduction to his work and additional details that have accrued since its publication, Flamel was the most accomplished of the European alchemists, and had learned his art from a Jewish converso on the road to Santiago de Compostela. As Deborah Harkness put it, "Others thought Flamel was the creation of 17th-century editors and publishers desperate to produce modern printed editions of supposedly ancient alchemical treatises then circulating in manuscript for an avid reading public."[1] The modern assertion that many references to him or his writings appear in alchemical texts of the 16th century, however, has not been linked to any particular source. The essence of his reputation is that he succeeded at the two magical goals of alchemy -- that he made the Philosopher's Stone, which turns lead into gold, and that he and his wife Perenelle achieved immortality through the "Elixir of Life".

Aha! The big question is, of course, if Hermie didn't know who Flamel was, how did she know that the GM hadn't made him up, and that googling him would give any results? :P

Because it's the first full name that's been given that's obviously central to the main plot. Obviously if the DM gives a name like that as a cliff-hanger for ending a session, then it's possible to find the name in some context - At worst, you'll find out that the DM made the name up. At best, you'll find his campaign expressed in great detail.

So, it's a general rule as a DM to never tell your players anything that will lead them to find something that will ruin your entire plot.

It's also possible that the DM knows this, and is using it to his advantage - He's encouraging RL research to simulate investigation the characters would be doing during the down time. Which is brilliant - Someone feels like a genius for discovering a hint, and gets to share it with the others who try to decipher it, just like the characters would be doing, and he may have tricked a player into roleplaying, too.

Or maybe I'm just reading too much into this.

I love the look on Harry's face in the last panel.

Completely unrelated, but you'd think Wizards would find some way to fix bad vision. Some genius created a potion to help you live forever, but you can't do something about nearsightedness? Slackers.

Yeah they very likely do have ways to fix your eyesight and only a HEAVILY inferred fanon reason why they don't.
