((aww, no fair! you changed scenes! ))

[Impending Doom]

The room is tiny, with walls, ceiling and floor all of wood. Everything creaks perceptible, as though struck by a stiff gust of wind.

Looking down, who does Schmoe see but Captain Starkey. 'Captain' indeed: He sits upon a stool, draped head to tail in a royal blue overcoat with brilliant gold epaulets.

"Oh, sorry about the, ah, sparse accomodations. There isn't much free space aboard."

[Dsarker]

I should have known. Your mind, eh?

[Impending Doom]

"Aye. Not a memory, though. Something you'll find far less tasty."

He stands, opening the door and gesturing for Schmoe to follow.

[Dsarker]

The daemon stands up and follows him.

[Impending Doom]

They exit the room, strolling along cramped corridors and climbing narrow stairways, finally reaching the upper deck of a large seagoing vessel. Many ponies of every shape and size bustle about..

"The bit with Friesden back there was... impressive, to say the least. The daemon and the doctor? positively touching. Perfect in every detail."

He ascends the forecastle, looking out to the horizon.

"Word for word as mother would tell it to my sisters and I before bed every night."

[Dsarker]

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, mister Starkey. Friesden seemed perfectly lucid to me.

[Impending Doom]

"Perhaps she was. Perhaps she wasn't. Perhaps that was one of her darker selves speaking. I have no way of knowing if she - or you, for that matter, were telling the truth."

Starkey leans on the gunwale, watching the countryside roll by hundreds of feet below.

"And until I do, this is where you will remain. Don't worry, I'll drop by often. This is one of my favorite dreams, after all."

((Starkey dreams of steam-powered sheep.))

Indeed.

[The Master]

I begin to shake Starkey, desperate to get him to respond, having waited for hours.
"...Starkey! Come on! ANSWER ME!"

[Dsarker]

Friesden slumps to the ground, like a puppet with its strings cut.

[Khenal]

Khenal scoops her up in his hooves, listening for her breath and feeling for a pulse.  'Please be alright.'

[Dsarker]

Her eyes are a mile away.

[Impending Doom]

from the other end of the deck, the ship's bell can be heard tolling.

"Oh, sorry to cut our little chat short, but it sounds like I'm needed elsewhere."

Amidships, there is a small dhingy suspended over the portside. The captain climbs in alone.

"Enjoy yourself. I'll be in touch."

He gives the rope a hard tug, and the dhingy descends rapidly out of sight.

Starkey awakes. The first thing he is aware of is the seargent - no, the lieutenant shaking him awake. The second thing he is aware of is that the flames have heated his steel barding to an unbearable level.

"Uh... wha? CarroAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH!!"
