Khenal's Book, Chapter 46
It's amazing how ponies can become friends, my book. I headed down to the hospital today to give Dr. Bubbles a book on memory charms. Sargent Carrot had a case of amnesia and the good Doctor was worried that it might need magical treatment. When I arrived, Bubbles was out, but Carrot was awake and aware. He seemed to be making a good recovery on his own, things seeming to be coming back to him at a slow but steady pace. Then he suddenly regressed into a foallike state, grinning unsettlingly and asking if I'd like to hear a joke. Halfway though it, his expression changed and he asked me to help him. I quickly cast one of the basic memory charms from the book, allowing a look at surface thoughts, and I couldn't believe what I saw. He was fighting a daemon in his mind!
With the encouragement of his wife, and the help of Countess Charity and my own magic, we were able to help Carrot defeat the daemon and bring him back to himself. Uh, mostly. Apparently, his heart isn't beating. I don't think he's dead, dead ponies don't thank you for your help and offer new friendship. I offered to check my books for information on his condition, and he seemed a little relieved at that. Then he worked himself into passing out over the details of his new...condition.
I need to tell Friesden this tale of friendship. I'd have told her before writing in you, my book, but I don't think she was paying attention to me. She was humming something oddly catchy earlier, maybe I'll ask her where it's from later.
