"Well, I think I should get a raise"

Charity's smile fades, to be replaced with a frown. She hated these kind of discussions.

"Did you not already receive a raise when you were made Captain? Your salary should be what Otik made during her first year. <Amount Redacted> a week."

Charity shuffules some papers and finds the one she was looking for.

"Yes, that's what is says you are being paid on my records. Are you saying that that isn't enough for you?"

[jaxler]

Jaxler starts leaning back in his chair.

"Damn, your telling me that she lived off that mcuh? I'm amazed she never complained. Anyway I still need more money."

[KingStrongbeard]

Charity ponders for a moment. "She did, for a year, and then she got only small raises after that. What makes you need more money than she did? You've lasted on an enlisted stallion's salary for long time, and that's less than you're making now."

[jaxler]

"Well I really would prefer to keep my reasons for needing more money to myself, but I also think I deserve more money then Otik."

[KingStrongbeard]

Charity looks none to happy with our dear Captain. "You think you deserve more money than Otik got? She served Glitterglen since before you even immigrated here. She and Starkey built the army out of nothing. What makes you think you deserve more than she got?"

[jaxler]

Jaxler continues leaning back in the chair showing no real concern toward Charities response.

"Well... the fact that I didn't die."

[DVNO]

Willow sighed with relief. she had hoped her guard duty would be more exciting than watching this fat buck engorge on cupcakes for twenty minutes. Her shift was almost over, was she going to jump into this? Of course she was.

"you know, Duchess, the colt has a point. It strikes me odd that even though the milita's forces have been struck in half, the pay hasn't doubled. some hazard pay and a COLA would be nice."

[DVNO]

"Uh, Luna? can I speak with Falcata in private for a minute before we start?"

Couth quickly ushered the three away from the god's prying eyes

"Look, You don't like me, And I sure as buck don't like you, but Damnit! IF we work together we can go back! I have A plan! The old gods made a way back, A backdoor back into the mortal life! But the Catch!? why do I need you?" He hisses

"Elements only. So, what do you say, element of loyalty? I show you the way, you open the door, all of us leave this place free ponies! you can see you daughter again!"

Falcata reluctantly follows Couth to seclusion and listens to what he has to say.  She expected him to taunt her in private with whatever dirt he'd dug up on her, but what he really said was in a way quite intruiging and horrifying.

"You're insane..." she begins.  It was hardly unlikely, given what she'd seen happen to Carrot.  Being dead didn't seem to do his mind much good.  "...and... even if you were telling the truth... how could such a thing be possible?  What cost would there be?  And what of Luna?"  She motions back in the direction of the alicorn filly.  "If I feared facing her now, how could I face her after doing such a thing?"

Charity glares at Jaxler, she opens her mouth to speak, when Willow cuts her off. "Oh, Willow, I forgot you were here." She stammers before recollecting her thoughts, "But doubling their pay is ridiculous, firstly because we've already started drafting replacements, before long they will be back up to their old numbers, and we can't afford to raise the pay of every soldier who survives a battle. And secondly, they are soldiers, they are paid for hazardous work, they don't get a bonus for just doing their job. If we did that it wouldn't be long before there were no bits left in treasury."

[jaxler]

"Yeah, but I kinda still need the extra money, regardless of weather or not I deserve it"

[DVNO]

"Right, well,"

she glances at Charity's cupcake drawer

"I'm sure ther' er some royal expenditures that could'a be cut if'a looked. but hey! My opinion don't matter."

Charity glares at Willow this time, but considers to herself, what Jaxler had said about needing the raise.

It had been several years since Otik had lived on the salary, Glitterglen had grow so much. A cost of living increase for the military wouldn't be unreasonable, especially since they actually had things worth buying in town now. Doubling was still ridiculous, but a raise wasn't really outlandish. She quickly does some math in her head, Glitterglen had a surplus at the moment, they could afford it, she looks to the Captain. "Okay Captain, you can have your raise, the rest of the army too. A flat 10% increase across the board. Call it a Cost of Living Adjustment. You'll see the change in your next weeks pay. Is that all Captain?"

[jaxler]

Jaxler stopped leaning in his chair and stood up

"I guess it is."
