You do not convince me. You rationalize your actions and because the result is favorable you become right.

Falcata snaps back to reality as her name is called.  She stops twiddling the key and looks over to Friesden.  "Huh?  Oh, what is it, Friesden?"

She smiles weakly and moves over to hug Friesden.  She's all but trembling by this point, knowing that her time was short.  As she embraces her friend, possibly for the last time, she replies, "O-of course, Friesden.  I'll come back and see you all, as often as Luna allows."

Keeping her face free of the nervousness wracking her was difficult by this point, but she manages for the most part.  This was easily the most frightened she'd ever been.  If... if Luna did turn her away... could she come back?  Or, would she be consigned to eternal torment for her sins?

The trembling is all but impossible to keep under control by this point, but still she manages.

Starkey walks over, gently embracing Falcata.

"If you... can't come back... I want you to know you were one of the finest warriors I ever knew. I would have been proud to have you marry my son."

Falcata's nerves dissipate as she is embraced by Starkey.  The gesture takes her by surprise at first.  She'd often wondered and worried about just how he felt about her, ever since the horrible day years ago with the amulets.  She returns the hug after a brief moment, as her nerves begin to return too.  "Th-thank you... that... that means a lot coming from you..."

Perhaps not the best way to show her thanks, but she was almost beside herself with fear by this point.  She thinks for a moment... this was only going to happen once... she didn't know how much good it might do, but it couldn't hurt to ask...  With her mouth near his ear, she whispers,  "I... I might be back soon... f-for good... if... if you w-would... say a prayer for me... please...."

Starkey whispers into her ear.

"A dozen prayers, every day until I know for sure."

She smiles weakly and tightens the embrace slightly for a moment.  It wasn't much, but she'd take anything she could get at this point.  Starkey was the most devout pony she knew, if he said something on her behalf, that was all she could ask for.  "Thank you, so much..."

She gives each pony in the room a final farewell, especially Kris.  She holds her daughter for what feels like an eternity, but is only a minute at most.  "Whatever happens, honey, know that what I said was true.  I'll love you forever."

Kris hugs both of her parents a final time, holding them for at least as long as Falcata's initial hug.  "I love you two too, no matter what happens."  She gives her mother a sad smile and adds, "Don't worry mom.  You've been the best mom I could have asked for.  I know you'll be okay."  She turns the smile to Estoc.  "You too dad.  I wish I could have gotten to know you better, but I know you'll be okay too."

Falcata wished she was so confident herself, but she accepts her daughter's soothing words as much as she can.  This would happen either way, and there was no need to upset Kris if it was avoidable.  She nuzzles Kris and says, "Thank you, honey.  You've been the best daughter I could have asked for too."

Estoc nods in agreement and strokes Kris' mane.  "I'm very proud of you Kris, you've grown to be a wonderful young mare."  He squeezes her one last time before the family breaks their group hug.  "And we'll be back to see you sometime.  We'll have all of the time we need to get to know each other."

With the final goodbyes given and emotions let loose, Falcata and Estoc wearily make their way back down to the caverns where she lost her life.  There, still where it had been at that fateful moment, was the shaft of moonlight extending up into the cavern ceiling.  The light was growing dim, and Otik's was only slightly more visible than hers.  Couth was nowhere to be seen, but she knew he'd be there at the worst possible moment.

With all of the determination she could muster, she forces herself to step into the light with her husband.  The two hold hooves like teenagers as they ascend up the shaft of ethereal energy, and for a moment Falcata imagines she feels a moment of peace.  The same calming sensation that engulfed her the moment she died, taking away all of her pain.  The world vanishes in a flash of light as the two reach the ceiling of the cavern, and they find themselves standing in what appears to be an infinite wasteland, disrupted only by an equally massive looking walled city just ahead.

Her hooves feel heavy again as she steps forward, and the two nervously make their way toward the city.  Their moment was at hoof.

Early next morning, Friesden wakes up and leaves the room she shares with Khenal, the love of her existence.

Slowly, she opens the door, and leaves the house. She had a plan. Her true love, her very reason for being, had been complaining about one thing, over and over.

The paperwork.

Slowly, making sure nopony notices, she makes her way into his office, and meets the grim pile of papers. An opening skirmish marks the beginning of the grand conflict, and she quickly beats back the first advances of the mighty foe. Her divisions race ahead, and cut straight through the enemy's front line, before pushing forward once more and securing a victory.

She finishes the paperwork quick smart, and waits in the office for Khenal to come, hiding.

I eventually awaken, wishing I could go back to sleep instead of having to get up and deal with the damndable paperwork that I still haven't finished!  I reluctantly don my armor and my spear, and grab a few apples from the stockpile for breakfast as I make my way to my office to do mortal battle with the bane of my existence.  Opening the door, however, I notice something doesn't seem quite right.  What was all may paperwork doing, sitting in the completed pile?  Confused, I walk in to investigate.

Friesden drops down from above the doorframe onto him.

"Surprise! I did your paperwork for you!"

I jump and buck in reflex as Friesden drops onto me, but quickly calm myself.  Turning back to meet her smiling, beautiful face with confusion writ plain on my own.

"You... did the paperwork?"

My confusion fade into abject adoration for my Only Light.  Tears of joy well up as I beam at her, unable to find the words to tell her how utterly amazing she is.  I embrace her in my wings and kiss my love, hoping to convey at least part of how much she means to me, and how much I appreciate what she's done.

Friesden holds tight to him, drinking in his love for her. He loved her...that's all she needed.
