The three continue to hold each other, repeatedly reassuring one another with nuzzles and reminders of how much each loved and missed the others. Finally, Kris manages to compose herself enough to ask, "...mom... if you've really been here all along... why did you wait until now? I mean, to talk to me?"
She hesitates in guilt. There was no particularly good reason. "I was afraid of what might happen." She nervously looks off in the direction of Friesden before returning her attention to Kris. "I... was afraid you'd... you'd..."
Kris cocks her head. What, kill herself? It was true that she felt like dying the day that her mother did, but she'd never really considered killing herself. "...mom... to know that you're okay... that's all I could have ever wanted." She smiles and gives her mother another squeeze before backing out of the hug. Her eyes move between her two deceased parents, then to her grandparents standing off next to Friesden. "I guess it's true, what they say. You really are in a better place, aren't you?"
Falcata and Estoc exchange uneasy glances. "Actually, honey... that's something I wanted to talk to you about," Falcata says, fiddling with the key dangling from her neck. "I... I haven't faced Luna yet." She again gives Estoc a worried glance. "But... she's sent for me... I can't put it off much longer..."
"That... what does that mean, exactly?" Kris asks.
Her mother shakes her head and continues to jostle the key nervously. "I really don't know." She lays a hoof on Kris' withers. "...but I might not be able to see you again... I just don't know..."
Kris lowers her head, and her ears droop slightly. She'd just been reunited with her mother and father, and now she was finding out she might not see them again. Not until she died herself, anyway. Or maybe never? What was the afterlife really like? "I... understand. Seeing you again, even once... that's more than I could have hoped for."
