"Starkey! Otik! come quickly, Khenal is trying to destroy his own magic!"

[Telgin]

Falcata blinks back tears of her own.  Sisters, she had no idea what Khenal and Friesden had been through... his association with her was beginning to make a lot more sense.  She felt horrible for the judgmental things she'd written in her diary about it and thought to herself.

"Oh, Khenal..."

She almost nuzzles him, but catches herself in the motion.  That... wouldn't be appropriate...

"I know somepony like you would never do something like that on purpose..."  She blinks back more tears as she looks at Khenal's broken expression.  "We... we all do strong things in the name of love..."

Genuine tears begin to form in her eyes as she thinks about just how much that phrase applied to her.  Luna, she felt like she needed to tell somepony about it... keeping it bottled up from even her daughter.  But this wasn't the time.  "I understand now... I know you're doing the right thing."  She forms a small smile.  "It'll work out, I promise..."

[Dsarker]

"Okay..." Friesden manages to leave just before Bubbles bursts in, and makes her way to the dining room.

[Khenal]

"I hope so, Falcata.  Because this.."  I tap my horn. "...was just my first idea."

[Impending Doom]

Otik leads Starkey into the Captain's office, shutting the door behind them. "Starkey, we need t'talk. I dunnae think Friesden's safe around Khenal."

Starkey is taken aback. "What do you mean? She's fine now, you saw her!"

Otik shakes her head. "It's not her I'm worried about. It's him."

"...This is about what she said last night, isn't it?"

"I've worked domestic cases, Starkey. I've seen how a battered mare acts when ye confront her."

"I know, hun. I just... the idea that Khenal would do something like-"

-Doctor Bubbles bursts in.-

"He what? Clop, I was afraid of something like this. Otik, please go with Friesden. We'll... talk more later."

((It bears mentioning that the militia have now headed off to either breakfast or their posts. The 'news' should be spreading quickly now. ))

[Dsarker]

Friesden is still walking in the corridor when Otik comes out and joins her.

"Oh. Hi...mum?" she says hesitantly.

[Telgin]

"It will."  She smiles again.  "I believe in you."

[Khenal]

I sigh and lay down on my hospital bed, glad to have that off my chest.  At least somepony else knows now.

"So, how are you doing?"

[Pokon]

Pokionic knew that, whatever was happening, could wait until later. He manages to find a warm spot on his bed and rest, knowing that whatever has happened "yawn" can wait until a goods nights rest.

[Impending Doom]

Otik chuckles.

"Hey, Friesden. Decided I ought t'get breakfast out o' the way b'fore my shift."

Starkey enters the infirmary.

"Khenal? Doc Bubbles said you were... hurting yourself. Is that true?"

[Telgin]

She sighs in return and looks away.  "Oh, I'm fine, no need to worry about me."  She admitted to the duchess she was dying... but telling Khenal didn't seem necessary.  She didn't want to upset him any more.  Well, maybe she was overestimating how much he would care... but knowing Khenal he probably would even if they weren't really close friends.

But... perhaps she should tell him what doing things in the heat of passion could cause.  No... that... that would just upset him more too.

She notes Captain Starkey enter and banishes the thought altogether.  No, no need to bring any of that up now.

[The Master]

"...oi! let me go whERE ARE YOU DRAGGING ME OH GODS!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The door to the hospital crashes down, with an angry guard standing over the bloody mangled body of Carrot.

[Khenal]

I smile when I see Starkey enter the hospital.  It disappears when he asks his question, replaced by a nervous grimace.

"Um... not permanently?"

[Dsarker]

"Okay!"

Friesden joins Otik with a smile on her face.

[Impending Doom]

"Temporary injury is still injury. Now, why are you trying to burn out your magic?"
