In the real world, Two hastily-dressed pegasi come galloping up the stairwell into the open air. They cross the courtyard towards Friesden and Khenal.

My mind flashes to my memories of Starkey and his brutal honesty.  His unique ability to get to the heart of a matter, to find the path when others try to hide it.  To cleave away the lies.

"Cockroach!" I scream, an axe apearing in my mental landscape.  I swing it with all my might, somehow knowing just where Cockroach is hiding.  In the path of the axe, the fog of blood and gore parts and dissapates.

Sadly, although Khenal hits Cockroach, destroying him for good, he also hit Friesden pretty hard with the blade on the real knife Psycho gave him. The scenes of blood and gore vanish, replaced by real blood.
