I gently place Friesden in one of the hospital beds and tuck her in.  I whisper to her: "There is always hope, Friesden.  Even in deepest despair, there is the hope of fixing things."

I move to the next closest hospital bed, only dimly aware of my own injuries from the fire, and settle in.

"Goodnight, Friesden."

I turn to Carrot and Starkey, giving a weak smile through my tears.

"Goodnight, my friends."

Two thoughts drift across my mind before I fall into unconsciousness from the rough day.  Firstly: Shouldn't the fires have died with Schmoe?  Secondly: I never did give him his popcorn back...

The fires should have died when Schmoe died, but he didn't die, did he?  A good twist like Impending Doom pulled is no fun if nobody else can figure it out, is it? ;)  Excellent twist, by the way.

Edited, because fire does not equal figure.  Not even slightly.  Ok, maybe slightly, but that "gu" really changes things!
