Dreds suits some people more than it does to others.
My suggestion is to ask people you know if they think you should go with it.
Then again, even if they don't think it suits you, you do what YOU think would be best.
All but one person's reply can be summed up as "Hell yes" so it's all good there
I have no tips, but a question. How does one 'dread'? Do you just not wash your hair for a long time?
There are quite a few different methods, ranging from neglect (simply not brushing your hair for a few years) to back combing, to perming. I'm trying to do things mainly naturally, but help them along a little. The front few have been back combed already and I'm just rub a wooly hat over my hair from time to time to encourage knotting and try to shape them by rolling between my palms.
You still wash them, no matter which method you choose. Dirty hair contains residues and oils which slow down the dreading process.

xD
I've shaved my hair twice and felt like I was in disguise both times :p
Do shower, with a bag over your hair. That reason alone to me means you should only get dreads if you're really about dreads. Because they take actual work to form and maintain. More work in the end than just having long hair.
I've always been more of a bath person, so there shouldn't be any problems there
I'll post a few pics up of the progress when I get round to buying a new USB lead for my camera.
