If my parents didnt raise me to be helpful to other people, i would most likely be a socially inept assclown like that troll.

It dosent smell right to let theese sadistic products of maternal alchoholism waltz around free in soceity.

Does not compute. You do realize there's some hypocrisy in there, right? Not saying that what the fellow did was particularly forgivable, but that doesn't give free reign to his (however justified) detractors :-\

Also, it takes two to tango. "Parental alcoholism" was the phrase you were looking for. Incompetence would probably work, too.

Unless he means women who drink while pregnant or feeding, which I believe is believed to 'transmit' or whatever the alcohol. I'm sure someone who knows better than me can tell me why I'm wrong, though.

*sniff* *sniff*, huh, wuzzat smell? Oh, it's just doctor poo. Anyways, onto my opinion. While yes, this mans problems could have possibly been a result of bad parenting, Besides the way his parents raised him, one could also factor in his peers he had in his adolescence, and outside media influence. Anything environmental, really, not just his upbringing.

Raising people properly (i.e., to obey the law, to seek truth, to use the good old golden rule, to not be such a blinkered idiot (in the literal sense), to find a moral construct and follow it) should be the number one priority of the institution of marriage.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome generally doesn't leave someone functioning at a high enough level to do something like this, and is just a nasty way to call someone retarded while insulting his mother in the meantime.

Nice try, though!

I admit I don't know anything about it other than that it is caused by pregnant women drinking alcohol. Could you please explain it more?

Or it could just have been a statement that alcoholic mothers are neglectful.

More than you ever wanted to know about FAS.

Apparently, it occurs in 1/1000 of the time. That number is too high. How can we lower it?

Presumably,

a. Better awareness, so that women know alcohol would hurt their baby
b. Alleviating whatever drives women to drink

What do you, as a woman, believe is causing them to drink? I've got a hard time thinking of what would cause anyone to drink, but this especially.

Hmmm. I've got no idea. Why would people willingly ingest a poison that damages your brain? That lowers your judgement?

Because it is carried in socially-accepted beverages, many of which are found to be delicious. Furthermore, many people, particularly those with extremely stressful lives, find it pleasant to gain whatever respite the resulting inebriation can offer. It's unfortunate that a pregnant woman, particularly one who is poorly off financially, has a very stressful life, indeed.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
