He lifts a handaxe from beneath his desk, then puts it back down. "I sure hope you stay put, myself. Is there anything you need? I've been told to make sure you're well kept. For whatever reason, the king still wishes to speak to you."

Would running up the slide be a thing that is possible? As kids I used to do that all the time but these were safe slides, not trapped stairs slides.

You search around while the others decide what to do next. You manage to find the mechanism for the trap, and reset it. The stairs snap back into a stair like position.

After a moment's consideration, you jam it for good measure. Searching for what trips the thing would be a pain when you can disable the thing from here.

You cannot fall asleep in mid-air, because your parachute isn't terribly comfortable, and, more importantly, you have gotten quite a few cat-naps in lately. You're wide awake!

You all start trooping up the stairs, including the tortoise. When you reach the top of the stairs, the tortoise hangs back a little nervously.

You take a god look at your jailer. You'd probably put him on par with one of those axe-fighters you'd tussled with earlier.

Alright, but just shaking the bars will tell you what you need to know.

You grab the bars while the guard stares at you and give them a firm shake. Nothing happens. You're fairly certain that you could shake these bars all day, and only get sore arms out of it. "It's magically reinforced. You aren't going anywhere until the King is ready to see you."

You hear some movement out of your visual range, but from the sound, you're guessing there's a staircase that leads down into this room. Another bird, this one unarmored, moves into your field of vision. "Uh, Sarge? The Commander is sending down an escort in a few minutes. He wanted me to tell you to wake the prisoner and prepare him to see the King."

The jail bird swats the messenger. "Idiot boy! He's awake, can't you see that? Honestly, you never look around you. Even the monkey" At this he points a wingtip at you, "Is more observant than you!" The younger bird scurries back out of the room. The jailer comes closer, holding up a set of heavy manacles. "Youngsters. Hotheads or airheads, and sometimes both. Anyway, both hands through one gap, if you please. Don't need no more trouble than is really necessary, now do we?"

I've realized I keep giving him these one option scenarios, which must be frustrating, so if he does decide to bail, I'll do my best to give him a reasonable out, and he can just deal with the consequences such a choice would bring.
