farming is way too easy and efficent.

am I only want that thinks that? currently I can create more than enough food for ~200 dwarfves with like 5x10 farm. Anyone else thinks that it should produce less or maybe it requires irrigation each year to supply food?

You could open up the raws and make eacj crop take longer to grow, but that still makes fairly minimal difference.

What thers should be is some kind of chance for crop failure, or a possibility for farm plots to be overgrown by weeds if not constantly tended or something like that.

Oh man, aren't you in luck, it's been discussed before.

Something that I think would make a big difference without too much tediousness would be to have fields require upkeep- they need farmer dwarves to come over and check on it, bring over water, and so on. Perhaps if fields also worked as singular entities instead of groupings of tiles, so that you plant one whole crop of plump helmets, for instance, and get back a proportional amount depending on how well it grew, instead of having success/failure rates for each individual plant.

Iv seen people who haven't had a redheaded person in their family for quite a while, and then out of nowhere two out of three of their children have red hair.
What color was the mailman's hair?

Oh joy, another highly detailed and verbose agricultural thread by Nw_kohaku , while i will actually read that whole thing I'll just offer another suggestion for modding your game to produce more realistic quantities of food, (not a suggestion for toady, rather a workaround for people who want a little more challenge)
1) increase crop growth times to 3-4 seasons per crop (some crops will need to be modded to actually grow in more seasons for this to work), this makes food management a little more important when you're waiting so long for food, you can always butcher animals during shortfall, but what about booze?
2) make seeds inedible even while cooked (not rock nuts, never rock nuts) , the advantage of this is you'll never find yourself running out of seeds.
Also, alternatively make a new reaction making (seedcake) which is edible cooked but the reaction requires about a bazillion seeds
also i just read a thread where crops were found to sucessfully grow for several seasons, if you still have too much food try making plump helmets take 5 years or something :P

That contributed absolutely nothing that wasn't in the improved farming thread. If that wasn't your intention but just smalltalk, never mind.
