I was at a mall with my mother. I had just come out from school. My father called and told us a plane had crashed against a building in the US. I thought he meant a small plane, so I didn't see what the fuss was about. Considering that President Bush  thought the same thing, I don't think I am at fault for this.

I was in a high school physics class. They stopped the class and put on the news. After school I continued watching the news at home.

I was nine at the time, and like a lot of people here saw it in class. Didn't really start to realize the impact until later, and if I keep going in this direction it'll turn into a politics rant and nopony wants that.

And for fucks sake, someone posted a video (in 2007) of the twin towers footage with Yakety Sax playing. I'm honestly at a loss for words.

I wouldn't call the video funny, but the comments are what makes it funny to me. Seriously it's even worse than a usual Youtube video.

I was in band class. There was a TV in the room (normally for showing historical movies/etc). It was showing the news coverage the entire class.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I'm not, although it's only 3 words.

What the hell.

Truly, a miracle of two perfectly intersecting beams, from the wreckage of a gigantic building who's superstructure was made out of intersecting beams.

Anyway, I also can't stand people who try to impose 9/11 as "my generation's defining event". My English teacher this year went on and on last class about how 9/11 is to people my age as the Columbia explosion was to people her age. I really just wish they'd give it a rest already.

I also recalled something interesting: My father was actually scheduled to take a flight on 9/11. Not one of the flights involved of course, but he always seems kind of nervous whenever the topic comes up. I can't say that I wouldn't be, lack of an actual brush with death notwithstanding.

Everybody in class opened up their Math textbook and covered up the World Trade Center entry on the list of tallest buildings with whiteout.

I was in the 9th grade, it happened in the morning before school.  My little brother and I got ready for school, and saw our mom watching the TV with a tissue in her hand.  We already understood that when mom gets upset, mom goes on ranting tirades around the house.  But not this time.  She was fixated on the TV, looking very upset.  We let her be, we didn't want to know.  When I got to my first class, health class, the teacher had the TV on and the other students were just socializing.  As the days went on, I learned more details about what went on.  And well, I guess I learned to fear the words "nine eleven."

I'm looking forward to when I don't flinch when I hear those numbers, or when I see Muslims.

I was in my second month of military conscription service and about halfway through the brain conditioning process. We were busy scrubbing down the barracks in preparation for afternoon inspections when someone in my platoon got a text message that a plane had hit a skyscraper in NY. We assumed it was a cessna or something, but we all went down to the common room to see if there was anything on CNN. Another platoon was already there watching, and about a minute later the second plane hit. We all stood there watching, mostly in silence, until quite a while after the towers fell.

There were no inspections that day, just a roll call. That's when people started worrying we would be mobilized (even more so after Bush invoked NATO chapter 5), which was a silly thought since they barely trusted us with shooting off our guns at the shooting range at that point, but brain conditioning. They certainly ramped up the recruiting pressure for professional soldier service though, and some soldiers (including me) got voluntold into base guard duty.

I was ... 11, I guess. Sweet Jesus.

I think I was at home, I remember playing a crappy song I made up as I went along in remembrance, on my keyboard.

Also, my uncles apartment was across the street or something. Lucky fucking escape. Dust smashed his buildings windows and billowed in, I think... I can't remember the story too right.

He wrote it on his website though if you fellows want to dig it up for a read. Www.Greatrix.com

I was 12.

Due to timezone shenaningans, I was already at home from school and from boredom I was jumping on channel before CNN came on.

Then I translated the stuff for my mother. Then we got bored and decided we will listen to it when Polish TV catches with the news. Then, my mother said (kinda direct quote) 'Now because of some idiots you won't watch your cartoons.'

That's when I got sad :c
